About 10 years ago I bought a standard pick up from my nephew. When I went to pick it up I turned the key and nothing happened, told him the battery was dead. We got a chuckle when I realized that being used to an automatic I forgot to press the clutch in to start it.

When I was a kid, learning to drive, the only car I occasional drove that was automatic was moms '62 Bonneville.

Everything else was "three on the tree".

Several times I caught myself stomping the floor and grabbing the shifter on the Pontiac and pulling it down, which on the old Hydromatic, put it in reverse!

I can't say I've had that problem. I have had the 18spd and the 15 up against the dash confuse me before with the shift from 4th to 5th. As they are reversed on the 2 transmissions. Only people that will understand this is somebody who has actually driven both of them. 13spd would be the same as the 18spd.

My Dad bought a new 67 Rambler with a 327 engine and an automatic.
He had manuals prior to that.
Was driving down the road and saw my uncle at his farm near the road.
Went to push the clutch in to show him his new car and slid screaming to a halt.
We all got a laugh out of that.

When I was 16 I had gotten used to driving a stick in dads pickup.

On test day dad said to take the car. The instructor nearly kissed the dash as we prepared to enter the roadway. The '69 Olds F-85 had really good brakes.

He still gave me my license.

That's funny Eric.
When I took my test at 14, the patrolman told me to turn left at a stop sign and I turned right.
I still have trouble with left and right and I am 68.
He gave me my license that day also.

The wife and I both drive automatics. Mine is a Ram. She drives a Tahoe. Occasionally I drive hers. I’m forever grabbing the A/C control knob to put it into gear. Doesn’t work.

LOL!
Yep, it's a tough transition -husband and I both drove manuals for many years- makes fir a few "quick-stops", when you change to automatics.

Try switching from an SC Case to a DC Case when plowing. Both are hand clutch tractors, but one is a right hand clutch & the other is a left hand clutch!

I've made the same mistake Caterpillar guy, every truck at work has a different gear pattern. 8LL, 10spd Roadranger, super 10 Mack, 13spd and one triplex Mack

Dad knew a fellow that was killed that way. He had either Case or a Deere with a hand clutch and got one or the other that the clutch worked backwards. He was backing into a low shed to hook up an implement and pushed or pulled the clutch the wrong way crushing his head against a beam in the shed. I used to have issues when using early Deere 3020-4020's then using side console tractors the same day. Would reach for hyd. levers in the wrong place. Tom

Worked in a warehouse driving forklift. The lift had its shifter on the left side of the steering wheel. Several times after a long day I just about ripped the turn signal lever out of the housing as I was leaving work.

How about those dang 3 wheelers with a front brake where the clutch was supposed to be. Who ever designed that's probably still laughing.

I have aFord 7700 dual power, and a Ford 5200 dual power.

The 7700 has the throttle on the right.

The 5200 has th throttle on the left, and the dual power lever on he right.

I hop between those tractors often and keeping the throttle and the hi/low sorted out might be comical to watch some days.

The 5200 has th throttle on the left, and the dual power lever on he right.

I had an older Polaris ranger an
when I would go to the mailbox and use e brake to stop. It had no park position so when I got a newer ranger I couldn"t do that anymore but my brain was still on old way.

Some times I'm in a lot of different machines in a short period of time. Excavators with excavator controls then backhoe controls. Forklift with a shuttle on the left column, dozer with shuttle on the dash, dozer with shuttle on the left arm rest. And all those different truck transmissions. Sometimes you just gotta take a minute and think about what the heck you are doing:)
