Carburetor problem update

For several weeks I have had a couple of posts dealing with a running issue on 1953 MM BF. Thanks for all the tips and replies. Finally got it going today. The power jet (fixed jet) was too large. Apparently whomever rebuilt the carb installed or drilled out the jet. The carb is TSX400 had a jet .055 I finally sourced a jet part # 49-208 which is for the TSX400 at .043 that solved my issue. This same jet is used in several different carbs on Allis Chalmers tractors. Thanks again for the help especially to Steve@advance.

I remember as a kid that one of the neighbors was complaining about their new 190XT gas was way
underpowered and he took an ice pick and opened the main jet. He said it ran better but used too much
gas(duh) (restaurant talk at lunch)

Thanks for sharing the 'fix'.

I never got my TSX400 to feed my Avery R, (same engine). But my problem was it was on the 'lean' side. ran fairly good with the choke half
closed.

The TSX455 that I got off Ebay didn't do any better. (It was supposed to work for the IXB-3 in a power unit application.)

What source did you use for your jet? How in the world did you get it out? I can't even see a screwdriver slot in mine.

I found a website that gave the jet part # for the TSX400. No one could provide the orifice size. More research on the part # led me to a website that listed AC carburetors and jet part #'s. I had seen a post on the book of faces of a guy that rebuilt carbs for AC's. He graciously gave me a jet of the original #. I had a feeling my issue was flooding out but I was not sure since the carburetor had been rebuilt. If you can't see the slot in your jet it could be partially stopped up. I would suggest removing the plug in front of the bowl drain plug and drill out the jet of the TSX400 as I did find several folk that said their BF had the same carb. Your carb may need a good cleaning. I am not a fan of fixed jet carbs but that is what I had to work with. Just need to find a .043 drill long enough to reach the jet. In my case the jet came out fairly easy as the carb had been rebuilt just not ran for several years.
