Looking for double door lock ideas

I have a couple buildings that have double hinged doors that come together when closed they both have little slider like latches that seem to never keep them shut when it gets a little windy just wondering what other options are out there to keep them closed thanks Rick

Slide bolt going up at the top and one going down at the bottom.
Purchase or make your own extra heavy if needed.
They make extended reach styles if needed.

Maybe a couple "U" brackets to drop a 2X4 in?? Two on the outside or 3 inside(one on one of the doors)?? But you didn't specify the width of the door. Hope this helps.

Usually with double doors only one door is used so the stationary door has slide bolts that fasten to the jamb at top and bottom. The door that is used then works like any other door. Sometimes both doors are made to use but it usually has a panic bar on the inside that is mortised all the way through the door where it latches to the top and bottom like the slide bolts do. Without special mortising tools those are nearly impossible to mortise the holes needed.

How big are your doors?

My barn doors are 5' x 10' each (10 x 10' opening). Right door has a spring loaded latch on the top with a chain extender. Dead bolt into a hole in the floor. This door also has a board on the inside for the left door to rest against and not over swing into the building. The (left door) has a big sliding dead bolt to latch it into the right door.

You have to make one of the doors rigid top & bottom for the other door to resister against. Both doors need door stops on all three door jams.

Don't go cheezy on these latches. You may have to make something big enough to really do the job, as store-bought stuff for larger doors is harder to find.

I have double doors in my walk-in cellar. One door has a vertical dead bolt at the top inside of it and the other door has a swivel latch that locks it to the bolted door allowing me access from the outside. These are fabricated and insulated doors that I built to fit the opening. They are at least 20 years old. Lost track of when I built them for sure.

Just a simple lever lock dead bolt and swivel barn door latch available at any hardware store.

I used a spring loaded barrel latch with a pull chain to open the door. They are the same type latch we used to have on the chapel doors in our church. Mine have been up 35 years and still work good.
