Just recently purchased a 2 bottom plow which will be a totally new experience for me. I know goggle is my friend but she always don't have all the answers. I'd ask someone in my area but no one to ask except the good people on this forum. If I knew the answer I wouldn't ask. Question..... Is anything gained by making multiple plowing passes?? Does it break up more dirt clods making the ground smoother by making more passes??
Many thanks. Wingnut

IMHO Multiple passes is not the thing to do. First pass dirt will be turned upside down. Second pass will flip it right side up again. Net gain zero. After you plow it then disc it to smooth it. Pulling a drag behind the plow will help smooth it out too.

x2 on the drag. If you are plowing sod it's a good idea to pull a drag over the plowed ground preferably after a wet-dry cycle before you disc it. If you can't drag it be prepared for a rough ride when you disc it. Don't have a drag? Cut two 10 inch or larger trees about 7 to 8 ft long, chain them together and run the chain to the drawbar. Have also used two 12 inch wide iron beams bolted together to drag.
