Fixed Timed AI

Do any of you guys use Fixed Timed estrus synchronization AI.
If so how do you like it.

I was talking to a guy up the road.
He is going to 100% Fixed Timed AI in a beef herd followed by a clean up bull.
Expects to get 50 to 60 percent conception rate from the AI.
His goal is to increase herd size without adding a bull and bringing better genetics into the herd.

I have used heat detection estrus synchronization on dairy heifers in the past but never fixed timed.

In my thinking it might work great with heifers but I do not think I would be up to the challenge of running cows threw the chute several times
over a short period with a 2 month old calf at their side.

Don’t know much about AI but when I was raising cattle we would pen the herd every month or so.we would always separate the small calves first.larger stuff would always go through the chute.that way they knew it was the way out and got used to it.after a few times it got much easier with much less stress on the cattle.

Yes I guess if you do something several times the cows and you get use to it and know what role is expected of them.

AI is a great tool.
You can afford proven genetics you could not afford using a bull.
It also gives you a calf unrelated to your bull so he does not need to be replaced as often for interbreeding issues.
The dairy industry would not be as advanced in genetics as it is today without AI.
The race horse industry has fought AI for years to keep stud fees up.

I used timed AI both with Synromate B and then with ciders, 100 mother cows and 30 heifers a year for many years. I also did some before the scheduled time and the next day after. I've been a AI tech for 50 years,However I hired a pro on the big days, I ran 200 cows for about 40 years and only purchased 5 bulls during that time.
My chute system will handle 50 plus a hour when preg checking.
Pm me a phone number, if your friend would like to visit with me. I would be glad to help.

Thank you Bill but I was just interested to hear what others knew about the subject.
While it has been going on for years this was a new concept to me.

This is not something my friend is taking lightly.
He has done his homework.
From what he said he has even been in contact with some researches at a ag college here in the southeast.
I want to say Florida or Georgia but do not remember what state college it was.
He has even talked about some strict (by my standards) culling.
From some of the numbers he was throwing around in increased profits it sounds like a interesting adventure.
