yes- a Chevy 3500 yr 2000....truck...( and yes it will pull a Plow if hooked to one!) I need help finding a Fuel Pump schematic.....I tried the web and not much luck; I installed a new FP Relay but still no power at the pump in the tank... lost it somewhere in between.... My cousin says he drove it to the field and shut it off...and that was it. Thanks

Crawl under it and look for wires that are pull loose. I do not remember what it was but I worked on one a few years back that a person have driven in a field and grass etc got hung on some wires and pull them out of where they should have been

why can't it be a bad pump? Friend drove his up to the gas pump, shut it off, filled up & it was dead. Wrecker took it home for him. I drove mine to the store, shut it off & had to tow it home with the tractor. Both were year 2000 Chevys.

Check the terminals that the relay plugs into, I've seen a few that have gotten hot and "spread". It will be discolored also if it has gotten hot. Bad connections and/ or failing pumps is the cause.

Don't know about a 2000, but my '94 has a fuse board on the passenger side firewall engine compartment that has a fuse for the pump. Connector was corroded.

BTDT got the t-shirt... I now cut up an old relay for the terminals that's the only thing I will stick in the sockets... Every time I have ran into this the relay will be hot to the touch with the engine running...

Does the truck have a 5.7, 7.4 or 6.5?

2000 3500 should be the old body style, the half tons were the newer style halfway through 1999 try looking for a wiring diagram for a 1997 or 1998, lots out there.

Some common problems;

-Fuel pump finally gave up

-ECM B fuse in fuse box under hood can blow when fuel pump electrical draw is high.

-Multifunction/ignition switch can be problematic.

-Security system can get a bad read from ignition and time out, if so wait about 22 minutes key off and it may fire right up.

Have you checked the fault codes?

I went through something similar on a 1994 K1500. Drove it several places then home, shut it off, tried to move it 15 minutes later and it would not start. Good spark, no fuel, replaced the fuel pump relay, no change. I was ready to change the fuel pump but decided to let a mechanic do it. He found a bad coolant sensor was the cause.

I dont think this thing has any codes? I will check! The temp sensor made the fuel pump quit ? Its funny something would run out to the field fine and then not start again- thats life isnt it? Thanks

yes and the pump could be bad....but...I have to get fire to the pump first; right now checking relay and pin 87 is hot with key on; pin 85 should come on when key is turned on for two seconds; it does not. Thanks

(quoted from post at 14:40:45 11/06/20) I dont have fire at the fuel pump connector.

You will only have voltage at the fuel pump connector momentarily during the prime cycle when the key is first turned on, then again after the ECM determines the engine has started.

Yes relay is working fine- pin 87 is hot with K/O and pin 85 lights momentarily; I need to find why I dont have juice between pin
87 and the fuel pump plug back at the tank. :) Thanks

not sure if this is till the same but my 92 chevy pickup had to have oil pressure in order for the pump to work, It would prime for a few seconds and if it didn't see oil pressure it shut the pump off, It is a safety feature to turn off the pump if the truck rolled over, like fords have that reset switch if they get hit. Bet your pump is bad.

Double check your fuses under hood and the panel left side of dash.

If the relay is not cycling then power is not making it's way from fuse box to ignition switch to computer then to relay.

Your hot 87 you could try jumping to the terminal kitty corner to see if pump will run.
87 is protected with a fuse.

Watch the dash when you turn the key on, common for not all functions to work when switch is failing.
Look for gauges sweeping, warning bulbs that should light up before starting, heater, radio lights etc.

I have temporarily installed a jumper from one fuse to another in the dash fuse box as a work around until a switch could be ordered in.

Pin jumping won't give pump power so putting a fuel pressure gauge on fuel rail(schrader valve) won't
help. I fought this on a 2000 C2500 for months, connection check with multimeter said I had power. Truck would crank
and have between 20-47 psi. It takes 52 psi to open the injectors. There is a small ground wire at rear of fuel tank
that goes to frame. BIG POINT : on the passenger side front cab mount/starter area of frame is a braided ground strap if
original equipment is still there. CHECK THAT CONNECTION !!! Mine looked fine until I touched it,then it crumbled into pieces.
Would have enough juice to meter correctly but NOT START! Replaced ground strap with heavier cable and it ran, hope this helps. If truck will
start and run with a shot of ether then put pressure gauge on rail.

Not sure on this "dash fuse box"? There is the main fuse/breaker/relay box left side engine compartment; under the dash left side
is a 4" by 4" fuse box with nothing in it...doesnt even look like there are spade terminals in it....just empty. I can try
jumping the relay box in the morning- thanks :)

The box under the dash you mention is just a connection center for power windows, doors, seats, brake controller etc.

The fuse box you are looking for has a triangle shaped cover on the drivers side of the dash board, you will see it when you fully open the drivers side door, cover will be the same color as the dash and will have a detent finger grab molded into it.

There are quite a few versions of your truck, with a single tank power is supplied to pin 87 from fuse ECM B when relay in activated it goes out pin 30 to the pump.

By the wiring diagram I pulled up yes... It also shows a fuel pump prime connector wired into pin 87A... Normally you will see 30 as the supply I thought it strange pin 87 was the supply you need to give more info. Does it have a gas 5.7 how many fuel tanks does it have. Post the vin #

You have been warned don't spread the connector in the sockets when jumping them only use a terminal of the same size as the relay pins...
