Got out the plow one last time for 2020

I remembered the nicer camera and tripod, this time!

So the secret weapon was taking the flap disc to the plow last weekend to help shine it up to start with this time.

So this is the result of maybe... 5 or 6 hours of plowing?

I can almost plow in a straight line even, haha. Wish I got a feel for how to straighten out a crooked row on the other end, though.

The front wobble of my pedestal is starting to annoy me while plowing though... May be time to jack it up next year and see if I can tighten the pedestal or if it needs welded and re-cut for the keyway. Does the shaft just drop out from the bottom if I jack the front end up over a "pit", or do you have to take the whole pedestal off to get to the shaft/keyway?

I am about ready to get my plow out for the first time but mine will be the snow plow. Nice plow I had one
on a Wd45 and it worked good I now have a two bottom on a CA and it is a great combo. Randy

It's not that difficult to straighten out. Which way does it curve? If it curves in, just turn and
drop the plow where it starts to curve and plow to the end. Keep doing that until its pretty
straight and then go back to plowing. If it curves out, just drive into the plowed ground until the
last bottom meets the furrow and the raise the plow. Drive ahead until the curve starts again and
pull into the furrow and drop the plow. Repeat until it's straight again. When finishing a back land
that is wider in places, drive to the wide place and start plowing there and pull out when it
narrows back up to where you want it to be. Hard to explain, wish I had pictures. Chris

That wobble has to be pretty bad to feel at plowing speeds. LOL When you are done with your plow and its all shined up I put rustoleum paint from a spray can on mine - anything I have kicking around. When you
plow again the paint will wear off with only a few rounds and until all the paint is off the dirt will slide off the paint and not stick. Shining up rusty plows is a real pain the neck that is easily avoided.

Did a lot of plowing with a set up like that when a kid at home. Dad always cussed the way the land wheel slipped so much. Years
later took in to have new tires put on it. Tire dealer call and ask why only one tire had fluid in it. It seems when the tractor
was bought new the AC dealer only put fluid in one wheel (furrow wheel).

thanks for the video, looks really dry, dust rolling off the plowed dirt, but rolling over nice in that bean stubble. gobble

Very nice video . I have a hard time pulling 3x14 with 70
horsepower tractor that weighs around 10,000 pounde here in
the rock hard clay turning up boulders bigger than the front
tires

banjoman99 -- Thanks! Yeah, 3-14 goes pretty good in 2nd gear here. When I hit some wet spots or nasty gumbo/thick clay, it bogs down hard but the traction booster usually can carry me through. My other WD has an M&W piston kit in it, but as far as I know this '53 WD is stock (other than the snap coupler).

dahlin -- Oh nice! Yeah, after I plow, the WDs are getting put away for the winter. I think a 2-16 would be fun to try on the old WD, just to get some deeper digging with the same horses.

super99 -- Mostly just the furrow not being straight due to my sloppy driving and the front pedestal wobble, but I think I understand what you're saying about correcting a curve. Not sure I could pull it off, but I get the idea.

Charlie M -- Well the wobble is mostly feelable in road gear, haha. I can just see as I drive thru the field how the wheels kick back and forth left and right as I hold the wheel straight, or when I cross any dips or valleys and they push me off course. Yeah, I've got a couple gallons of old grease ready to slap on this plow tomorrow once I do a little more dirt playing!

NEKS -- Haha, oh yeah that would do it. I have ballast in these tires and it seems to do a good job of putting power to the ground when coupled with the traction booster.

tomturkey -- Indeed, last weekend it was almost perfect wetness of the dirt and not bad out other than the wind, but today it had dried out pretty good. It is fun to plow under bean trash, makes the field look so nice when you are done!

SVcummins -- Holy cow, that is nuts. That ground looks hard as a proverbial rock.

Chaz7795 -- Yep, 3-14 here in Illinois!

Thank you for posting the pictures and video. The old WD
does pretty good with the mounted plow. I am not really
experienced with AC tractors but in the video it looks like the
“traction boost “ system worked pretty good, even made the
front end look light at times. The ground looks good but
maybe a little dry, probably made the tractor work a little
harder. I always enjoy seeing pictures like this, but sort of
envy the flat ,rock-free good looking soil.

We are going thru the same process of derusting plow bottoms. Bought this 6B plow this
week and cleaning rust off with an ancient Rockwell 7" disc sander. It is perfect for
this task with the heavy abrasive discs and rubber backing pad. I also saved one field
on the ledges that has more fine limestone chips than dirt and the bottoms should
clean up well there.

several years ago at Monroe Wi Farm & Fleet a younger guy was there with his wife, he said to her that man looks to be older I bet he has
plowed some he said to me excuse me sir i think you have done some plowing would you use on plow bottoms when you get done grease oil.
I told him neither lets find Nate and ask him if they have plow black paint. The young fellow and I found Nate who told him Virg is right.
A few rounds and plow black come off if want to speed up put some gas on plow bottoms.

I have a short video and a few pics I tried to share on this thread, but for some reason they dont show. Ive posted pics on these forums before, but having trouble now. I go to the upload photos/videos section chosen the files from my photo library, and then hit preview and nothing shows. I did notice it says begin uploads above my pics, any idea what Im doing wrong?

You have to wait until it says files uploaded or they wont show
up on classic there will be a bunch of weired characters show
up when the photo is loaded if you’re on modern screw i mean
view you’re on your own

JK-NY -- You're welcome! It seems to handle it pretty good, even in tough clay in these parts. It was definitely a bit harder to plow yesterday and today than it was last weekend when there was better moisture. There's some rocky and gumbo and tree root and valley spots around here too, but I was taking advantage of the best fields first haha.

Adirondack case guy -- Oooh yeah, looking good!!

730virgil -- I put the plow away today with a coat of grease since I've got 2 old buckets of it I'm trying to use up, but after that I may have to check out plow black.

Chaz7795 -- Look forward to seeing 'em!

Thats my dad setting on the back. He was setting there because he was filming.

Boy o boy I don't paint grease or anything on the plow and it works fine from start to finish. Must have some kind of special dirt here. Don't know. Just drop it in and go in a couple of rounds it is shiny.
SV I don't know how you get a plow in the ground that dry. I have had it dry enough here a chisel plow would just skate on top in the summer after wheat cutting. Or would go in on one side and not on the other. Tried even going across the headland a few times to get a start still no go. This was with new shovels or points depending on whether it was the plow or chisel plow.
