Grain Cart gearbox

One of my neighbors has a M&W Grain Cart, probably 500 bushel. I talked to him this evening, the bearings went out on the gearbox and probably did more damage to shafts and castings. He said he called the local dealer and parts are NLA/ obsolete. Anyone know where he could get a replacement gearbox?? I looked on Surplus Center, but the highest HP rating was 32 hp. Not sure, but I think the 4555 Deere has a little more than that. Any ideas for a replacement?? Thanks, Chris

I'd take it in to an accommodating dealer. and compare some to what he has. Might need to drill some new holes in the mounting plate underneath. Sounds like a good time to trade for a Kinze cart. I think they are the best carts from my personal experience. Yup it has a drag auger on it and that makes a few more wear parts. Heavy solid carts though. I gave an 840 a beating on the plains from TX to ID a few years on a 4955. The worst was bouncing over circle ruts fully loaded. Still was going. 5 combines and 1 cart in 100 bushel wheat doesn't leave much mercy on the cart if the combines are not going to stop.

Yea it takes power to move wet corn quickly,I would measure the flat auger and the inside diammeter, the driven end,and discharge, see if a Univeferth has one that fits !!

I will sure agree about the ability of the Kinze Grain carts. I bought a model 600 that they were demonstrating at the Farm Progress Show back in the early 1980s and pulled it home and had two hundred bushel extensions made for it and was still using it when I retired at the end of 2015. I will see if I might have a picture of it on the computer.
