I can get Firestone 6 ply for $505 each or Harvest King 8 Ply for $400 each. Dealer said Firestones are made in USA.
Tractor mainly rakes hay and pulls wagons. What would you go with?

I would say that that ply rating only applies if the plys are of equal thickness. I would think that comparing actual tire weight would be a better comparison.

True but unless you can see them side by side hard to do. Most place at least in my area have to order the tires in so hard to compare them. Plus I have never had good luck with Firestone tires

Firestones may be made in the USA but they aren't all that and a bag of potato chips either. You pay a lot of money for the right to thump your chest because you spent the most money and did your "civic duty." You didn't necessarily get the best tires or the best value.

In my experience Harvest King is a decent tire. A good value for the money. Yes, they are foreign made, in China, but if American companies want our business they need to COMPETE for it. $210 difference pays for the tubes and a week's groceries.

If you can find a local dealer that handles them, look into CEAT Farmax tires as well. Made in India, so at least you're not sending your dollars to "evil China."

Thanks for the replys. They're 14.9x28's. I bought new rims and did look for used but didn't really see any. I've heard ok things about BKT? Didn't see any local dealers though.

BKT are good tires. I restored a John Deere tractor for a man in the Netherlands. He preferred I put BKT tires on it. The preferred tire in Europe.

I just remember my younger brother showing me the corn stalks that poked though the sidewall of his Firestone combine tires.

Have a Goodyear tire on the right side of my 450 IH. Been on there for years. Bought a new Harvest King for the left side and the circumference is 5 inches shorter then the Goodyear that is wore down some.

Have your dealer quote a pair of MITAS tires. The name sounds foreign, but they are made in CHARLES CITY IOWA. Same town Oliver tractors were built in.
I had my dealer quote Firestone Super All Traction 2's, they have a newer tread style, the old fashioned 23 degree tires are no longer made. And the dealer guoted BKT's, and he did finally get me prices on MITAS, all 13.6x38 6 ply. The BKT's were cheapest, the Mitas next, and Firestones most expensive of course. That was 2 years ago. Prices have changed. Several times.

By the time you spend $75 ea for tubes and $100 ea for mounting you might as well spend $2-300 more buy new tubeless tire that will last 20-25 ys vs 10 yrs.

bought this tractor with these tires. No history of when these tires were mounted or how it was stored. I do know is the Harvest King is 9 1/2 years newer, has more cracks and is seperating. See photos.

Any of the newer tires don't have the oil in the rubber like the older tires and they will dry check much sooner than the older tires.
No experience with Harvest King.
BKT is a good tire
Bought my first set of Mitas this year for a project tractor that isn't running yet, so can't say good or bad.
Firestone SAT II tires offer good traction but if you do any road traveling they will wear fast.
Had a set of Armstrong Titan 16.9-30's on my 4000 for over 20 years, they still had 30-40% thread when the cracks got to bad, 7 years on the SAT II's and already down to 50% thread.
