cleaning out my shop and have had this thing sitting there for 30 years. looks like maybe off a cub? someone was running a welder with it and added the rad to it and fuel tank.

I’m also thinking Continental. I put in too many hours turning wrenches on Allis-Calmer forklifts that had that identical engine...except the Allis engine was a six cylinder.

Just looked at the Y91 in the MH Pacer, water outlet is at the head front, not where the engine pic shows. Oil fill is lower and further forward on the Y91. I wonder if you have a small Hercules similar the the MM BF and BG tractors used?

yes, i have started hunting around and thats what i found also. and it goes into the block not as this one is.

and if you notice the block can be unbolted from the crankcase , and you can see the round cyl's at the bottom of block. the ixb3 is different also.

This has worked for me when trying to identify an oddball.

Find a number on the distributor.

Look that number up somewhere like Standard ignition then use their number to search for application or buyers guide.

Usually you can narrow it down to a few possibilities.

Kohler? They made a 4 banger water cooled that they put on a generator in about the '20's. Saw one in the museum in Sheboygan.

Looks like a small engine my dad had that was used to power up aircraft engines at the nearby air force base during the war. It had a 24 volt generator attached and was in a small cart that could be towed. Continental I think.
