I cart the diesel to my auger tractor in two and a half gallon jugs. It's just easier then unhooking the auger. I'm getting the fuel from my 500 gallon barrel. How come sometimes the diesel foams and sometimes it don't. Same fuel, same pump, same jugs. Different day. Does the temp have anything to do with that?

Try practicing the bar tender trick of flow down the side of the jug. It might be dependent on turbulence in the entering stream. Jim

I have actually noticed the same thing. Even when filling jugs in town at the pumps. They are underground tanks so the fuel should be cool. Kind of like pouring warm beer in a cold glass. It will foam all over. Pour cold beer in a warm glass and no where near the amount of foam.

It's the temp and it will also affect the weight per gallon. 6.? lbs per gallon average. I always go to dealership and fill large tank early morning when it's cooler. Get more fuel.

Unless the dealership pump is nearly pre-historic it is temperature compensated and you are charged for the fuel at the current fuel temperature. In my state all commercial pumps/meters have to be temp compensated by law.
