I had a donkey that we got free from a person who basically treated her like a pet. Hooves ruined and over weight. Got her slimmed down and started to get improvement in her hooves.
On 10/10 she kicked one of my heifer calves in the side right behind the shoulder while at the feeder. Calf began bleeding from the nose and mouth and coughing blood. Few hours later calf was doing better, and a few days later couldn't even tell anything happened. On 10/16 I found the calf dead with bloody froth from the nose and mouth. The donkey case a sudden case of lead poisoning.
My question is, are all donkeys like that (possessive of feed and such), or was it just because she was raised like a pet and not with a herd of sheep/cattle?
