Placed an ad for hay...." Fall Decoration hay, been rained on, baled up after it dried. $3.00 a bale, pick up in Sylacauga. Not horse hay" first 5 people who called asked how much? Next 5 asked where you located, can you deliver ? Next 5 " is this good horse hay?" Grrrrrrr. Read the ad people!! I'm done. Thanks for listening

I feel your pain.Same thing here. That's why I quit advertizing in the papers. These days, word of mouth sells hay pretty fast. But there is a huge shortage of hay here this year.Everybody seems to be out.

Uness it's moldy & full of weeds, just tell them it's cheap horse hay & be done with it. If it's dusty, the horses don't care.... the owners do & they AIN'T eating it. What the horses don't eat will become bedding. Should have it gone in no time.

Grandpa, I HEAR YOU when I was a used tractor, truck and farm implement dealer and ran adds I heard all the typical calls lol

First call, hadn't been there to even look at it, yet they ask "Whats the least you will take" MY ANSWER " Whats the most you will give" and they stumble around saying well I will have to come look, Im thinking WELL DUH LOL

Put in add the make model year mileage and price, they call and ask for the year and miles and price grrrrrrrrrrr

If they say they will have to talk to the wife THATS A NO SALE NEVER SEE THEM AGAIN

I refused to come down until the buyer at least made an offer, I already priced it let them make an offer or leave

One thing that made them buy it or leave.........Wife comes to the door and says someone wants to come look if its still for sale????? They either bought it or left lol

I'm not surprised. You can get all sorts of goofy things when you buy or sell. I see a lot of ads for cars and trucks that they don't list the miles or the year or both ? I can't figure it out ? It's not like they are paying by the word for these ads like in the old days.

I sold some hay a few years back on Craigslist . We put in ad mixed Grass hay round bales 4x5 Saturday at 9:00am had one guy come out dressed in church clothes drops down on hands and knees craws around field looking at the grass and tells me he will be back, I told him it was 1st come 1st serve and if he wanted some he needed to buy now that there was someone coming to get all I had 2nd guy shows up at buys it all pays me and tells me he has to go and get trailer and will be back that afternoon took him four loads ....... well the crawler guy shows up just as we are finishing loading the guy who took it all it is close to 5:00 PM and wants one bale...I tell him it is all sold and he buys one roll from that guy who bought it all at 9:30 and pays him $10:00 more that I was charging...and he was mad at me for not holding any back for him.

Had someone call asking me about supplying some square straw bales for a pancake breakfast they were hosting in their parking lot.

I told them $5 a bale, they said great we want 30 of them.

Next call was; can you deliver them?

Well I was driving into town with an empty pick up every day so I said I sure can for $5 a bale, once again they said great so I loaded them up and dropped them off.

Next day after the event was over the phone rang again, this time the problem was they were cleaning up and had no way to dispose of the bales, could I help?

I replied; sure I will load and haul them away for $5 a piece.
Once again, great was the reply.

When all was said and done it was the best money I ever made off bales.

Maybe you should try advertising rustic bales for rent.

Hay is the worst to sell. One year I had an abundance of large bales and put them on CL cheap. Guy buys several then a week later says his horses won't eat it. That's strange, mine were eating them fine. I said OK I'll give your money back and you keep them. Not worth the hassle to move them back, or bring back something from his place that could make my horses sick. But that year I had used some bright orange poly twine I had picked up cheap. Week later I decided to drive by his place, sure enough there was two bales out in the pasture and both had horses eating off them. Knew they were my bales because of that orange twine. But what do you do. Grandpa always said some folks just ain't worth thinking about.

My best friend sold some high dollar horse hay to a lady a fw years ago. A week later, she too said the horses were not eating it.So jack went over and looked. The horses were in a lush green pasture with waist high grass. They were fat as pigs. duh.

EXACTLY over many years I learned how best to deal with them lol....AS my business grew and I was able to operate on my own money I became hardened and tougher to deal with, there it is take it or leave it. In the early years when I had to borrow on 90 day notes if any were coming due Id be forced to sell but that changed and improved. I enjoyed it and made a living in the 70 and 80's while farming but those years are long gone. I remember getting in the old 1948 Ford leaving at 4 AM freezing my A$$ off in zero temps for a 4 hour drive to Sikeston Missouri or Archbold Ohio or Stilesville Indiana etc auctions, buy what the old truck could carry, drive home same day !@#$% It seemed fun though lol

A few pictures of the old Ford and other items I bough used and sold in the day

Same here, that's why when I am selling something, I say come check it out first then make an offer.I can't stand when some guy from the other side of the state, calls and starts lowballing me.

And it actually worked.......They would either leave or say they will buy it lol and I didn't care which it got rid of them

Many a time I have been in the market for a piece of equipment or vehicle.
There is no way am I driving 3 hours each way to look at something that has a higher than average asking price.

I will contact a seller to determine the condition of what they are selling then state what I would be willing to pay, if they agree or we are close then I will go look.
If not close on price then; don't waste my time and I wont waste yours applies.

It's interesting how predictable people are.

When I was selling vehicles, if a middle aged or older farmer looked at a vehicle, you could bet money the first thing he would ask is, "Does it use any oil?" That was their criteria as to whether they were interested any farther.

As Ya'll know, with the advent of fuel injection in the late 1980's, cylinders don't get washed down, piston rings don't wear as much, and oil consumption simply isn't the issue it once was.

Hay, machinery, small engine, all the same. I'd have a used small engine whatever for sale. "I'll take it, but I gotta go get the money". Tanslation: "I drank up my paycheck, and I gotta go home and see if I can sweet talk the wife into giving me the money". They never come back. "Will you hold it'? Only until the first person with cash in hand shows up. "If I give you $10 down will you hold it"? On a $500 unit? Get outta here! .........................Smile

Yup. And you know you priced it way to cheap when they don't even try to beat you down ten bucks and start pealing off the dead presidents . Then ya get the ones that show up and try and buy something ya don't want to sell since you already fixed it up for yourself and they say what do you want for that one and you tell them it is not for sale and ya get well how much and again ya say it's not for sale and they come back with how much , so to put and end to this you throw a outlandish price on it way over what you could buy one for anyplace on this earth for half the price and ya get OH and they leave only to come back a half hour later with check in hand and you tell them that you don't take checks so they send there wife off to the bank to bring cash back . I could NOT keep and 806 for myself as no sooner then i got it all fixed up with new paint tires everything questionable or broke repaired , rebuilt someone would show up out of the blue and just have to have it regardless the price you pulled out of the air tryen to get them to leave . The only way i have been able to keep one for myself is NOT fix all the oil leaks , never painted it just put new tires on it fixed the lights , put a new seat on it change oil and RUN it , yup she is a true rag but runs like a scalded dog and i have had it now 21 years . Just did the fall service on it yesterday and put a new seat on it added in L E D lights and looked over the new oil leaks.

Yes like the part about Church from state not church and state which many say it reads

Or the part where the right to bear arms shall not be infringed

Hahahahahahaha, Hahahahahahaha, Breathe, Hahahahahahahahaha, Hahahahahahahahaha, Breathe. It is terrifying that so many people believe the crap the MSM is pumping out.

Just wait until you get the guy that shows up and picks through it and gets mad an tells you your cheap have is over priced and junk.

(quoted from post at 10:24:33 10/09/20) Such as life buying and selling, don't let it bother you.

Agreed. If you can't handle the knuckleheads and nincompoops, then don't sell anything, EVER.

There is nothing you can put in an ad that will stop stupid people from asking stupid questions. Why anyone would think a stupid person is a thorough reader is beyond me.

if you are going to quote the "right to bear arms" thing.. how about quoting the WHOLE thing...

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I find it astounding that so many people forget about the "well regulated Militia" part...

and for the record, a bunch of gun toting yahoos in camo is NOT a "well regulated Militia"...

Now, can we get back to tractors? please?

If you want to go there you best keep going since it was put in place to let the people protect them self's from the government and keep a check in place so the government cannot take over and stop the by the people for the people

Could be worse. They could buy the hay and feed it to their horse and then try to sue you when the horse gets sick. Probably should put a warning label on the bakes.

I used to buy stuff from CL sellers, but I have just as many goofy stories of sellers as you all have of buyers.

It’s certainly a two way street!

Paul

Did theu mention anything about whether or not you made an extra trip across the field to pickup the bales ? 🤨

Used to sell Pickups. often would put plated on one for sale as if it was daily use. Often one I wanted to keep for sale. Worked like a charm. Well would you sell the one with the plates. Well I dont know ,I would hum haw around. Ok what will you give for the one with plates. Laugh all the way to the bank.

I don't think the NG is a bunch of Yahoos. A little overweight and a few wrinkled Utes can be overlooked.

David, you really need to leave your political views off the forums. We all know where you stand. Most of us saw that terrible evil post you made about the POTUS deserving the virus. Again, shame on you.

Had a woman buy a truck load several years ago, call the next day tell my wife the horses won't eat it.Wife tell her to bring it back and we will give her her money back, she tell wife they can't bring it back until later in the evening.Wife tell her fine someone will be there just call before you come, nevered showed.Turns out she bought a large trailer load at a hay auction and every bale was moldy, she would buy good hay and was returning her bad hay the story goes that she got caught trying to return some to a local feed store that morning and got caught.

Kevin, I posted a few days ago that decoration hay sells for $10.00 a bale. At $3.00 a bale no wonder you are getting these confused calls.

Ahem. There is not one word in the constitution that says SEPERATION of church and state. The wording is more like "Congress shall make no law..."

The spirit of this amendment was so that there would be no "state religion" like the Church of England. Over the years, the SCOTUS has misinterpreted that statement to mean separation.

Meanwhile, over the courthouse entrance and in the courtroom it says "In God We Trust" as well as on our money.

Jimg is correct.

Read it again. It starts out "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" and continues on to list freedom of speech, assembly, and the right to petition the government.

I'm not exactly sure now where it is but I know it is there where it says church FROM state that was one thing my dad us to rant about all the time and being who he was I am sure he had it right

First amendment to the Constitution states:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

from there you get into Supreme Court interpretations of establishment clause. Over the years the generalized meaning has come to be said as "seperation of church [u:19392e2c45]and[/u:19392e2c45] state".

(quoted from post at 20:49:27 10/09/20) Church FROM state is how it should be read

You can say it either way.
In the end the phrase (with And or From) does not appear anywhere in the Constitution nor any amendment.
Therefore it can't be "read" either way, at all.

Just so you know - every man between the age of 18 and 45 is a member of the militia. As established by the 2nd militia of 1792.

I posted in some square bales of alfalfa grassy alfalfa I didn’t say Square in the ad showed pictures square bales and somebody asked me for are they square I didn’t even answer

(quoted from post at 08:16:45 10/09/20) And you know you priced it way to cheap when they don't even try to beat you down ten bucks and start pealing off the dead presidents .

Not always true.

All my life, any time I wanted to buy something (and I'm from poor side of tracks!), if they're selling something I want, I either accept their price or I don't. If I accept it, then I'm happy to pay their price.

For example, I bought a 2000 Dodge 1500 a few years back. Can't remember what the guy was asking, but it seemed like there might've been a little room for negotiating. Still, I test drove the truck, checked out everything, did everything except crawl underneath. He had that truck purring like a supercharged kitty!! Yes, I bought it, and was happy to pay his price. He seemed surprised that I didn't try to haggle, but not everyone haggles.

If this guy had been someone who seemed clueless of used auto prices, then I might ask in a polite way, but the way I was raised, I usually either take it or leave it. I've even heard of some people that won't pay sticker price for things in a retail store. I just can't imagine going into an auto parts store and trying to haggle on the price of oil and a filter, for example. Seems to me like it would be highly insulting. ...But seems I'm in the rare group.

(quoted from post at 16:49:27 10/09/20) Church FROM state is how it should be read

young fella, if you really need to see it as FROM you will need to go to your US Senator's office and ask for an amendment to the U.S. constitution.

Sorry about not finishing the reply.

After typing the words "first wife", suffered a "[i:654c4848f0]flashback[/i:654c4848f0]" and just now recovering from it.

However, it did remind me to send her a new broom in a couple of weeks.

That my once best friend and I are now her ex-husbands.

I am the same. If I want something and the price is reasonable, I pay the price. If I think the price is to high I walk away.
I decided to buy a truck and the prices for used with lots of miles were crazy high. I decided to price out new. I had a list of what I wanted and gave it to the 3 big guys. I said I wanted one price to me before tax. FORD was the only one that even got back with a price. It wasn't much more than used price. It has been a good truck so far and dealer service has been great.
