I'm looking to have coverage as we can legally drive it on the road. my homeowners covers damage but not liability. anyone got something that works well? april to nov!

In SD, I believe that the vehicle has to be licensed before you can get liability on it. If it is a "farm" vehicle, then it can be covered under your farm liability policy.

This link below provides some information which you probably already know. It does not tell you exactly who would provide liability coverage though. Surely you must have an insurance agent of some kind, even if you don't drive a car or truck your home insurance agent should be able to steer you in the right direction. Have you talked with an insurance agent at all?

I have GEICO, and they were more than happy to sell me a vehicle liability policy for my Mom's golf cart so we could take it to Red Power Roundup last year. It was not expensive to get coverage on par with my two trucks.

In Iowa you simply get a liability coverage policy for it. I think mine is $65 for the golf cart and $85 for the Ranger. All they need is a VIN number to put on the ID card. Here's my buggy.

The only insurance advice I personally would take is from my agent. He knowS what is covered, how to cover you and What is legal in the states he is licensed in..

My homeowners policy here in SD says they cover it even if I take it to events that require proof of insurance for liability. Not legal on the road cause it is not licensed and would not meet the requirements to do so.

(quoted from post at 21:01:00 10/08/20) My homeowners policy here in SD says they cover it even if I take it to events that require proof of insurance for liability. Not legal on the road cause it is not licensed and would not meet the requirements to do so.

So does mine, but nowhere in the policy does it say anything about "golf cart" and the folks at the gate of the event aren't insurance experts and won't read through your however-many page policy to figure out if you are covered or not. They can't just take your word for it because most would lie about it. They want a simple to verify insurance card.

Why in the world would anyone wish to drive a golf cart on a public road or street? When you consult your insurance agent make sure to tell him/her that is what you wish to do otherwise they may assume you just mean to drive it on private property (i.e. tractor shows, fairs, etc.).
