Farmall Super AV Hood

I bought a farmall super AV. The hood was really rough. I purchased a really nice one off a Farmall Super A from a friend thinking they were the same. It is too short. When I put it up beside the old hood it is shorter by about 1.5 inches or so. To me it looks about like my hood on my 230 but I have not measured it yet. Does the Farmall super AV have a different hood than the super A and if so which hood fits it? Also does anybody have one? I also need a nice grill.

The parts book TC-39 on page 44 shows only one hood for all Farmall Super A series tractors, 58144DX for gasoline tractors and 58145DX for kerosene or distillate tractors, so maybe something else has happened to your tractor.

Thanks for responding. I think the hood I got has a regular A decal on it. I have been told today that there is a difference between a regular A hood and a super A hood. Do you know anything about that?

The only parts book I have for the Farmall A is INTL 5459 dated 9-26-41, lists 58144DX for gasoline and 58145DX for kerosene or distillate, if they differ I do not know but I suspect that they should be similar lengths, the engines are effectively the same

The hood for the Farmall A series (AV,B,BN) and the Super A series tractors i.e. AV are the same (they have the same parts numbers). The very, very early Farmall A hoods had different fasteners to attach to the radiator shield and tank which might??? have made a difference but I do not think the length would be any different. The Super A, as built, did not have a water pump and if one was later fitted the pump was down by the Water inlet and would not require a change in hood. Something must have changed on your tractor to have a different length hood, radiator shroud?, tank?

Been thinking this over, memory coming back. The longer hood should fit a super C, maybe some/all C. The other poster may be able to clarify this as I don't have Farmall parts books--I've been John Deere for long time. I needed a hood for the early A. Auction had some, but they sold as a lot of 4, which I bought. Got home, tried the nice one on and guess what, 1 1/2 in too long. Then measured all and 3 were long and one short which was labeled BN and now is on the A.

Sorry, I do not have a Farmall C or Farmall Super C parts book so cannot state whether the Farmall A hood is the same. The Super C has a taller radioator than that used on the Farmall C and the fuel tank was raised about an inch above the touch-control unit to line things up. If the same starter tank was used then the neck would have to be an inch longer to clear the hood or the mounting brackets could have been altered to raise the tank the extra amount. There were not that many Farmall C tractors sold in NZ, the majority of those that were sold here were the French built version.
