Rubber wrap around steel wheels

Planning on wrapping rubber around the rear wheels for the Huber in the next month or so. Originally I planned on cutting the sidewalls off of old Ag tires, and bolting down the tread. One grandfather thinks that retired rubber tracks from a skid steer would be better. However we would have to remove the rubber studs on the inside. My other grandfather thinks that Ag tires would have too much of a arch in the middle and would need to be flattened. He believes it would be better to just simply bolt rubber mining belt to the wheels.

What is everyones personal preference from experience?

Recaps for truck tires should be flat on the inside. Find a recapping place and buy a strip the length you need.

If you watch an ag tire perform when it’s in use you’ll see that
the footprint flattens out as it contacts the surface it works on.
Same with a car tire. You’ll have no problem flattening the
tread to fit the Huber.

I wouldn't want to be cutting those cogs off the inside, and I think that a little tread is desirable.

Use whatever you like. Might not be to hard to cut holes in the steel rim with a torch to fit the lugs on the rubber track then just bolt as needed.

When my husband did it, he cut the sidewalls off old tractor tires, then used carriage-headed bolts and silicone to attach the tread section to the steel wheels... worked very well.

Here’s what I did for my cross motor case. It’s time consuming
but think it looks good. Neighbor gave me a matched set of
tires from his combine. Find tires that is wider then the wheel
you have.

I've done old tractor tires bolted on
before, it works well, but is time
consuming to get done. A chainsaw is great
for rough cutting the tread to size.

Depending on the width of you wheel, I
would look at recap tread. Unless you want
to pull something with the tractor. There
is no reinforcement in that so I would
think it would stretch if under load.

I've used re-capping tread on the front wheels of my steam engine. Worked well for several years, but eventually the washered
bolts started tearing thru. Recap belting does not have any cords for reinforcing in it. It relies on the core of the tire
for that strength, thus, bolt tear out strength is kinda low. Recommend finding something with cords in it.
