Last hay for the year

I'm gonna try to bale the last 4 acres of hay today if I can get it dry enough. The temp was 40 when I got up this morning and the dew will be on till somewhere around noon. I mowed this past Monday but the weather has not been warm enough for it to dry down good all week. I have a fellow who wants it all so I'd like to get it done for him before I go into the hospital Monday for hip surgery. I tedded it Thursday again and it's about 100% orchard grass that is not too tall. It will be a good birthday present from me to me if I can, I'd rather be doing hay than anything else I know at this stage of my life which will make me 73 today.

happy birthday, Keith. I baled some third cutting a week ago, when we had an abnormally warm week. Like you say, the drying days are a lot shorter this time of year.

Keith, many happy returns from this side of the pond and all the best for your trip into the ‘workshop’, our weather has broken so no harvest going on here. Might still have a few decent days if anyone wants to have a final bash.

Sounds like you have a busy day ahead of yourself. Enjoy both the haying and your Birthday. Good luck with your surgery and have a speedy recovery.

Have a happy birthday. The hip surgery will go well, I had my right hip replaced a couple years ago. I got back on my feet real fast. Just don't take too many pain pills. They will plug you up before you know it. Wish I lived closer I would give you a hand with your hay. Stan
