Diesel fuel tank leak....

As far as I can tell the fuel tank on my lS170 new holland skidsteer has a leak. I cant pull the tank off without pulling the engine according to the mechanics at the dealership. So is there something I can put in the tank like a liquid patch or something? I can't see the crack to put a external patch on it. Thanks,
-Garrett

I always take and when the tank is empty put plugs in the tankle and put like 2 too 5 pounds of air to it and then spray with soap water and it will show the leak with it bubbles. I weld the tanks to fix them and they make some tank repair kits now instead of braise or welding. You will still have to clean it up good and then aply the patch.check with them shops on what they use to fix them I know that they make a kit for big trucks.

Permatex makes a repair putty that is resistant to gas or diesel. They also make some for cooling systems. Have used both and they do work.

Is there any way you can look in there, use a mirror, whatever, to see where the leak is? It could be a crack in the tank or just a loose fitting. Investigate the issue carefully before you pull it all apart. If it's rub damage or a crack in the tank, you're not going to fix it with any kind of sealer in the fuel. In fact, - I wouldn't use any kind of "sealer" in any fuel for any machine. Just asking for trouble.

What year skid? My 2010 L170 has a hose that connects two lobes of the tank so they go down even. You have to pull the whole rear skid plate to see it. Very possible that's whats leaking and not the tank itself.

I have recently repaired a metal gas tank with JB weld for the fuel tanks. Mixed a bit of puddy and problem was solved. Well pleased with the product. So far 2 weeks with no leaks.

harbor freight has some inexpensive inspection cameras for about 80 dollars. they will do the job. way better than pulling the motor without knowing where the leak is

Thanks everyone I'm gonna do a little more poking and prodding to find it before I do anything more and will probably be buying a inspection camera

Another product is Seal All,It comes in a bright yellow red tube,it worked for me,it will adhere even though, it's still leaking, but will be faster if it isn't, Menards use to sell it in the pluming dept, farm supply stores have it too!

+1 on the Seal-All and for the inspection camera idea. If nothing else it may snake around the engine enough to see the cross-over hose mentioned.

I personally prefer to bed a repair area with Seal-All and layer up some material over it then follow up with another coat. (Specifically for a chaffe or worn area)

You can get camrea for you phone from Amazon. My boy has one an it comes with like 3 feet of a cord on it with a light. He has to down load something an then you just use it to look at things. Works good.

Unless it has a hole big enough to put a pencil through you might be able to fix the leak with a fuel tank liner. Can you see where the leak is through the filler neck? If so you could tape a small paint brush on a dowel rod and brush the fuel tank liner on as much of the bottom as you can.
