Massey 175 Wiring

I am having some trouble with an overcharging alternator on a 175. I posted this originally in the MF forum, and got some help. I ordered a new regulator, but I want to verify the wiring that is on my tractor is correct. It had been redone by someone who owned it before me.

Does anyone have a 175 wiring schematic? I have the service manual and operator manual, but neither has a wiring schematic, not sure what other documents would have a wiring diagram.

Your diagram is missing LOTS of wiring and/or makes no sense, electrically.

I should have an I&T manual for it, some have complete wiring diagrams and some don't.

I will try to remember to look for the manual late and see what's there and post back.

Thanks, and yes the diagram I drew is incomplete, I left off the starter switch and oil pressure sensor. My concern was that only the F terminal on the 10DN alternator is used in the current wiring. I know the external regulator is supposed to provide feedback for the alternator to regulate the voltage, I was wondering if the regulator is wired to the alternator correct. Doe the "R" terminal have to be used?

Sorry I did not get a chance to look for the manual yesterday, but I can tell you that the "R" terminal is NOT used on many applications of the 10DN alternator, typically those that do NOT use an "idiot light".

It connects internally to one of the stator leads.

Also, in this case, "R" stands for "relay", NOT "Regulator".

The regulator's #3 terminal is the voltage sensing terminal.

The regulator needs to be grounded, and the voltage between ground and terminal #3 should be in the 13.5 to 14.5 Volt range. What is you voltage there when it is overcharging?

The #3 terminal can have battery voltage at all times, and the #2 terminal will only have power when the ignition is switched on (typically), or in this case, when the oil pressure switch is closed.

Not a problem. ptfarmer wound up posting the troubleshooting directions from the Big Dean CD on the original post in the Massey forum. It
appears that mine is wired incorrectly- the #3 on the regulator is not going back to the alternator to regulate voltage. I am going to go
ahead and fix that and hopefully that will clear everything up. I never haven't tested the #3 on the regulator for voltage, but the battery
was getting 17+ volts. Thanks for the help
