4020 maximum horse power

Just curious what was your exhaust temp at 120 hp. A friend of mine order a new 4630 in it's day, that had 220 off the truck, the shop foreman knew the customer pretty well, he had no hired men or kids farming with him,so left it like that, never had engine problem with it!

115-120 HP on a stock fresh 4020 is not uncommon,,and the exhaust temp, is not dangerously high ether, as far as turning the pump up on a 4020, about all you can do is tighten the leaf spring screw, and it will only give you a bit,,10%..If the timing is advanced by about 10 degrees it will also help,,,when you hear a 4020 "rattle" a bit on the rev up,,it is feeling good and will be in the higher HP range,,adding a turbo will put it into the 130-104 range,, a lot of them running around here like that,,using the extra HP as a reserve power,,4430 will turn down to 95 hp,,and up to about 225 just by turning a screw,, 4630's will go from about 110- 245 HP ,,they have a larger pump. We use to play with them back in the 70's,,just to see what they would do.

A neighbor had a naturally aspirated 4020 that put out 120 hp on the dyno. I always knew which field he was in by watching the smoke.

It’ll push 1300 on a long hard pull . It’ll blow a flame a foot long after dark . Want to put the 3020 on the dyno because it’ll blow a flame you can see in the daylight
