Took all the short clips and put them together. Sorry no video of getting the baler clogged and shearing the pin ( twice) or getting truck stuck. Or broken loader chain. In 6 months I can watch this and think " that was fun" lol
Alabama hay making

Johnson grass; a member of the Sorghum family and a noxious weed to many.
Under the right management it can be a great forage and hay comparable in TDN and CP to other more common hay crops.
But under the wrong management it can be deadly.
You better do your homework if you are going to keep cutting that field.

I've been told that horses and cattle love Johnson grass.
If you cut it before it goes to seed, you'll get rid of it.

Johnson grass; if not stressed; is very good for livestock and they will readily eat it.
But if it is stressed from drought or worse yet a non killing frost it becomes very deadly to most all livestock.
It will even kill a goat and they can eat just about anything.

Cutting will never get rid of Johnson grass because it comes back from the rhizome; no seeds needed.
The only way to get rid of it is to graze it and graze it hard.
Basically over graze it hard.
A full summer of no leaves will kill the rhizome from lack of nutrition.

Cattle and goats will graze Johnson grass into the ground, makes good hay if cut while its still tender like everything else.Only problem is
when its had a lot of N applied and then it turns off dry the nitrite level will be real high, but normally for cut and baled hay no problem.
