John Deere Carburetors

Hey All,

Can anyone tell me if a DLT6 carburetor will/or should work on a 1929 John Deere D.? I have a non running D with fire and can not get it to start. Thinking this carb is an issue, as it floods thru the throttle stem. Previous owner rebuilt it with a DLTX3 kit, so who knows how good of job he did !! Waiting on manuals, but trying to get it figured out on my own. Not much info on D's out there that I can find. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What does the #3 have for a float. I use a Linkert Carburetor Nitrophyl Float Fits Harley & Indian M Model Carburetors. can be found on Ebay. Same float that Roberts Carb sells for a lot more money. Available in brass also. The #6 will probably work, but the fuel line may be different. I know you can put a #6 on a GP for more power.

Hey Mark,

Here's what I'm dealing with. This looks like someone pieced together this carb. I don't know for sure, but things don't match. It has a DLT6 body and a DL55 bowl. I can't find anything info that matches this.

Good luck getting the float not to leak. I am no expert on John Deere Carbs, but did just rebuild one for an A. I learned the hard way that each passage must be CLEAN! I put mine in an ultra sonic cleaner for about 1 hour, came out clean as a whistle

Yeah, I have seen drill bits that are the correct size for the passages. My float is brand new. I am going to put it in a tub of gas and confirm that it floats before reinstalling.

Not sure I've ever seen the bowl for a #3 installed on a later body like the #6. You can check the float level by inserting a barbed fitting with a clear hose in the drain for the carb, hold it up next to the bowl to see where your float is set at. Check the needle valve for debris that won't let it shut off. You could find the correct bowl assembly for that #6 on ebay. But you would need a different float and needle valve.

I had one of those brass floats that was too heavy to float. Put the nitrophyl float in and worked much better.

Well, I cleaned up the carb. Set the float, made sure all passages were clean and re-assembled. Even though it has mis-matched parts, The Ol' D fired up on it. I had to clean some fuel lines, the tank and re-timed it, but she will fire off now.!! Thanks for all the responses and comments. I will have to start a new post now about my RUNNING 1929 John Deere D !!!!!! Thanks
