Steer tire design

What’s the point in having a steer tire like this compared to just three
rib? Do they allow for better steering in the field? Or smoother on
asphalt?

It looks like the ones europeans use. their tractors have front brakes and are driven on the road, they would be good on snow and ice.

The cross hatch would help keep the tires turning in mud which is a problem for most steer tires, especially with narrow fronts. In theory anyway.

Jon, now that is a good idea and one that I could see working. Well, at least almost as well as steering with the brakes.

I had a set on a Ford 641 with a front snow plow. They held much better than the regular 3 rib from the side push of the snow plow. Wish I had gotten them again.
