Sources to get a gear welded up and re-machined

I currently am working on a Huber. Several teeth of said gear are nearly rusted off from sitting in water so long. Rest of the gear is good. I have tried sourcing a replacement correct gear to no avail.

I know in the past there were places that would weld up and re-machine a gear. Can anybody recommend such a place?

Thanks much

my thought is that gear is not repairable , but there are machine shops that could duplicate that gear for you , around here they are called machine and gear shops

It will not be cheap, but I imagine you already know that. If you get no joy here (and this is a very good place to ask) you could try some of the machinist forums online.

Keith Rucker of VintageMachinery.org does some of this kind of work for viewers of his youtube channel but I'll bet he is inundated with requests. However your project is unusual and that might whet his appetite. You could join his channel and see.

Booth Machine shop in Pensacola FL has the ability and Adam's channel on youtube is Abom79. He is a really god guy and runs his shop as a job shop so he would give you a price as well. He is very good and can do it.

I have seen videos on you tube of it being done. It can be built up with brazing, and a good machinist can cut new teeth.

I assume that is a slow running gear. And I assume you are not using this tractor as an every day working tractor. That being said I would not be afraid to rebuild that gear yourself. I've done it twice with success. Looks like you have 4 at most 5 straight teeth that need repair. Trace it on to a piece of paper, then build them up with welder. Next go to work with pencil grinder and file. 2-3 hours will have you looking pretty good.

Repaired gear won't be as good as new but for light work/show tractor would be ok. Someone with a small shaper could grind a tool to match the good tooth profile and cut the built up welding down to shape easily.

his is what I would do.

Lange machine shop in Hector Minnesota. Jason does amazing work on gears for big gas tractors and steam engines. You’ll have to google for the number as I don’t have it handy.

Many times the tooth profile and number of teeth are standard and a gear can be bought from Browning or other power supply house. Then the center of the old gear can be machined and the center of the new gear machined to fit and pinned in place. A relatively simple machining process.

Boxx Gear in Decatur, Al. can make you a new one. Had to have reverse gear made for my 450JD crawler and they did a great job at a fair price.
