Cutting hay

Got the "new" ford 950 in the hay field on Friday. It's been raining almost every day here in central Al. Finally calling for several dry days. Rained most of the day Tues and ground was really wet under the grass. Should I fluff it a couple times? Maybe once this afternoon? Ford ran great. Bought this one from Tracy Brown. Someone took care of it. Cleanest fluids I've seen in a tractor....ever. Checked everything, changed nothing. It was different mowing with the wide front, but I think it was easier. I could watch the front tire to keep me in a straight line.

Gene Davis, sure looks like it in the picture, but I can see it sitting on the trailer out the window and it looks fine. Maybe funny shadow? And thick hay?

Grandpa, I'm sure that you know that when the ground is wet your tires will sink in a little. As you are driving over the hay that you cut last time around your tire lugs are pressing it down into the ground. So yes definitely fluff it or you will have wet bunches and subsequently some mold.

TF, some spots were thin, most was really tall and thick. Taller than the hood on tractor. For some reason my wife won't walk all the way across the field for a video! Lol. She has seen the field rats.....and a couple snakes.

I much prefer using a mowco when the ground is wet, as it leaves dry space that you can rake the wet row into. When you use a sickle bar mower, all the wet ground is covered and will not dry.

I am going to guess 830 John Deere, ran one until I got my 909 new holland. I think I have seen you post it in the past, Mike

Almost looks like the left side rear tire is bit low. I'll be lucky if I get another cutting of hay this year due to the weird weather we had but my hay barn is almost full any how. I could put maybe 5 or so more bales in it but that is it unless I bale squares

Do you wear hearing protection when operating the tractors and machinery?

Vito

Vito, no. Old Fords are fairly quiet. Usually only use ear plugs in the wood working shop. Seem like things are louder in there where sound can't escape.

You are running all gassers so not that bad. Diesels are louder. I wear hearing protection when running my finish mower behind my 961 diesel.

Kevin, I was out raking and then baling hay today with my 971D. I was thinking how even quieter the diesel is than my 960 or 961 gas. And then a turbo diesel is noticeably quieter than the naturally aspirated same engine.
