grain bin roof fix

was checking my grain bins yesterday and noticed some small holes in the roof, maybe 1/4 inch in diameter. it must have been debris from the derecho that took my tool shed down. i need to get up there and patch it. i was thinking maybe rv roof patch with the reinforcing strands? the roof is steel galvanized. or some type of adhesive caulk. a while back there was a discussion of sikaflex construction adhesive, but it looks like its for concrete.

yup, the bin is empty right now. unless i shinney up the stirrator, tough to get to. im too old to shinney anymore! lol!

I would look for something made of polyurethane.

Several brands use it, look for roof or flashing sealer.

Anything with petroleum base, latex, or acrylic will eventually dry, shrink, and crack.

Put a bin bolt with washer thru hole with silicone on it and come back and put nuts on once bin is full

There are several different products for rv roofs by the brand "Dicor" that are supposed to work well for a very long time

I used some roof tape, something like in the link for a holey harvestore roof. It stuck fast very good. The problem was I kept finding more and more holes after I taped some. I finally replaced the roof. I hope you do not have too many holes. Good Luck!

How many holes per flat section?

Might be more appropriate to get some unformed steel roofing.
Cut to fit inside standing seams. Raw edges or hemmed edges(best). Cement in place with Polyurethane sika adhesive or butyl rubber tape and a few rubber washered roofing screws.

Check with someplace that sells and puts up bins. They make a self tapping bolt with a sealing gasket for attaching roof augers, etc. Not cheap, but they can be screwed in from the outside and will seal the hole.

See if you can find Geocel roof caulk at roofing supply house, this stuff is the best and last forever. Comes in black, brown, and gray, but the gray doesnt seem to be as good.
