Inherited 1936 John Deere Model B

I recently inherited a 1936 John Deere B from my late father. I unfortunately know very little about tractors. It looks to be totally restored. I dont have the space or property to keep it and have decided to sell it. From what Ive read, They are pretty common tractors but have different options which change its value. If I upload some pictures, would someone be able to help me determine value?

Im going to attempt to upload some photos but keep getting blocked by the spam filter.

Thanks in advance!

To the other JD folks on here- would all '36's be unstyled? Are they worth more than the styled models? When did the styled models first come out? Still kicking myself that I didn't buy that good running BO
about 30 years ago, for 400 bucks.

I think you need to post so many times before you're allowed to upload pictures. You might be able to get permission if you go to the Site Comments forum and ask. Otherwise, just post a few more times with info about your tractor.

To answer the other question--yes, all '36's would be unstyled.

Yes 36 was unstyled. It was around 40 they went styled. In general value would be less due to no road gears, all hand crank, some didn't even have pto. Sadly, I can't imagine it going for much over $1200 with perfect tires and perfect paint. Basically only good for goofing off on the neighborhood or parades.

'39 was the change to styled. There are several options that could add to the value of a
'36. Spoke wheels would probably be the most dollar value, condition of the tires is
another. If you can add a photo, we can give you an educated guess on the value.

Tractor tires, especially rear tractor tires can be expensive to replace. Good tires can be half the value of older tractors, especially in the odd sizes (36 and 40 inch diameter). Some round spoke rims can also add considerable value (F&H brand?). Is the tractor running? Non-running cuts value by at least half.

I suspect your dad's tractor is worth a few hundred dollars on either side of $1,000, depending on condition.

The glory days of collecting hand start machines has past, as their usefulness is pretty limited to pulling smaller wagons and parade duty. The current hot market is in the big over 100 HP muscle tractors of the late 60's & early 70's. Those take much more money to restore or even haul around than the 1930's machines.

Good luck.

Coshoo ...... I had a good laugh when I read your post. Tractors back then were like girlfriends in high school .... everyone thinks that maybe, just maybe, it might have been a better choice. No going back remember .... LOL !!!

Hello Wchern welcome to YT! Post several short replies to some of the questions asked. Get your post count up
to 5 or so then your pictures will probably load. They do that to keep someone who is not so nice from popping
on and posting some not so family friendly photos. If you are trying to load them from a phone the file size is
probably to big. I don’t know what size options are on an Android. On my iPhone I select medium.

They don't take up a lot of room. You might just want to hang onto it. You could find a copy of an operators manual should help get you started. And then the YT group can help.
I don't know how old you are but as time goes by if you sell it right away you may wish you had not. If you have any kids or grand kids who knows they just may take an interest in it ?

The post in the link is another new poster, he has posted a picture with a count of only 3 posts. When you say download I assume you are using the ..Advanced Posting Tools.. I think that is the only way to post a picture here.
Another YT post

Can someone describe the difference between styled and unstyled? I see those terms frequently but don't have a clue what they mean. Thanks.

ou can go to tractordata.com and look up the John Deere B. The page will give you the option for the 1935-1938 unstyled version with pictures, the 1939-1946 early styled with pictures, and the 1947-1952 late styled with pictures. hth

An unstyled tractor has no sheet metal around the radiator and and an exposed steering
post. In 39 John Deere went to styled with enclosed radiator and a more modern look. Ron

I have both Farmall H's dad bought new and M brother picked up later. Mean a lot to me but they just sit. Have to
start them and run them around every couple months or so except in the winter. Kids, not interested. Grandkids,
totally not interested. But, after working over 50 years on red tractors, I can kick the tires and say, these are
mine. Come around the curve in the old farm drive way in fifth gear, pulling throttle lever just like I did in the
early 50's. Puts a little spring in the old man's step. Until I get off and limp around. I'd keep the old Deere.

For the money I put into them when I got them I could have bought a fairly decent car and now I would have a
twenty year old worn out car. Got some of them anyway.

PS, wife says you learned how to swear pulling on the flywheel of one of those old B's.

I have my Grand fathers tractor which is a 1935 JD B on steel. I played on it as a child and so have my grand kids. My mom put a price tag on it being it was her dads tractor of $100,000.
