Baler question

I bale about 2,700 bales a year with my John Deere 24T. It does really good with first cutting, but second and third cutting, the pick-up head kicks the hay forward, and then balls it up. Also it kicks some of the side. Is there anything I can change on the baler to avoid this? What are good upgrades for a 24T? I’m not looking to spend a lot of money, but I don’t like leaving that much hay on the ground.
Thanks

Does your baler have round compressor rods or the flat style shown in photo below. If not the flat style then I suggest to look for & install one.

If trying to pickup single windrows try a bigger windrow, doubles or triples. With more hay going in you get less hay thrown back.

On second cutting I put 5 rows together, that helped some. As short as the hay was it just doesn’t pull in good, that’s why I was looking for upgrades for the baler.

I don’t have one of those. I’ll look for one! Any suggestion where I
might find one?
Thanks

IIRC the only 2 models that flat compressor was utilized on is the 24T & 224. Used baler or salvage yard that sells baler parts would be only place for flat compressor

I have never seen a set of flat compressors before other than a baler on a online auction. A 24t could also have a set of compressors made something like that and out of round bar. That is what I put on my 24t. I have seen many 24t balers with no compressors. They just have strait rigid bars. My 24t was like that and we changed it. After the change it did a much better job. Another thing that would help is if you used teeth off a 224. They have a crook on the end. The 224 had 5 bars in the pickup and the 24 only had 4. If you found a set of tooth bar holders off a 224 you could add the 5th bar to a 24t. I know where a parts 336 is setting and wondered if I could use that pickup and some 24t parts and build a super sweep pickup to fit my 24t. I have thought about it for sometime but I already have way to many projects. Tom

Hi,this was not a problem encountered with our NH 274 on this side of the pond. However when I did, I found that increasing the forward speed slightly helped. It would throw the hay forward and then the next tine bar that came round would catch it.
