Deutz-Allis 9190

I have a 9190, it has been a great tractor for me. However just lately the transmission will lock up in 5th gear and only 5th gear. It won't shift in any other gear. I have been able to unlock it by manipulating the 3 shift linkages on top of the auxiliary fuel tank. I can unlock it ands run through the shift patterns, but shortly it will stick back in 5th again. Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks

That is usually caused by a worn shifter.

Either the end of the shifter is worn off, or the pivot is worn, letting the end ride up and over the slot in the shift forks.

There are also spring loaded detent balls that hold the forks in position until they are told to move. If the spring is rusted away or missing, or the ball gummed up in the hole and can't move, the forks will be misaligned by vibration and not in place to receive the end of the shifter.

As Steve said and could also be a cable out of adjustment if they are shifted that way.
