I am ironing out an old M Farmall -- that old thing was shot from one end to the other - the only thing saved was the engine - any how do the
gears and tranny shafts qualify as cast iron and can I include them with things such as a rear end housing? All cast is worth 50 bucks more
than unprepared steel here! Roy from northwest Iowa

No unfortunately, the alloy steel is not considered cast. Check to see if the scrap yard has a price for gears and shafts. Jim

hit it with a big hammer. if it breaks it's cast. I think both things you ask about are steel.

Engine block, head, intake and exhaust manifolds, transmission case, axle housings, wheel centers, front bolster and maybe the transmission top plate should be largest cast items. Maybe 1 to 1 1/2 tons, an extra $50 to $75 total. It may be worth your time to strip and separate the wheel centers, but the rest is doubtful.

no, gears and trans shafts is not cast and they know that. would you want a tractor with cast trans. gears?

The connecting rods and crankshaft and camshaft and lifters and rocker arms are forged steel too, just like all the transmission gears and shafts. The flywheel is cast iron. The driveshaft between the clutch and transmission is steel.
