loading and unloading tractors

I have loaded and unloaded my tractors this mowing season, over 300 times. I get fairly good at it, except when some one happens to be there and wants to help. They only get in my way. I don't even like people around me when I am working on something. Do you? Stan

Often, people are just distractions. And now they don't even have to be present! I have a neighbor, in the excavation business, who recently bought a very nice used tractor and trailer for hauling bulk ag commodities. He hires a driver. His driver has a headset so he can take/make calls hands free. I'm sure that's a benefit. But not always. Less than six months ago the fancy roll tarp was replaced because it was all beat up near the rear gate. Apparently you need to roll up the tarp before opening the rear gate, or it gets caught and damaged. The driver just bought a house, and is very pre occupied dealing with home ownership. He was blabbing on the phone this week, and opened the gate first. He then spent an evening trying to glue a two foot gash back together.

When I work on generators or power systems. I work alone or with a helper I can trust. Make a mistake on voltage and it can kill you.

There are very few people that I want to "help" me, my brothers, my wife or my kids are welcome, they know when to help and when to step back. Everyone else please step back and watch but do not "help".

I am 100% with you. I have a neighbor who is often around and will jump in to hitch up the goose neck trailer but forgets to hook the safety chains, or has pulled the plug to disconnect the trailer electrical from the truck by yanking on the wire rather than the plug ending up with broken wires in the plug. Aaargh! Yep, and chains hooked wrong, sigh! I have simply come to the conclusion that I have to check their work. I prefer to do that on my own and at my own pace. Fewer Oops!
My 2 cents on a touchy subject for me

I move quickly, so most stay out the way. One neighbor that stops over, i just quit what I am doing because even if he's never done what I'm doing, he likes to tell me how to do it.

Even my sons know, don't bother dad when he is hitching a trailer. I have 3 different trailers and I have my "system" for each. However, I will accept help to verify that the lights are working.

My wife is my helper most of the time, she's good at most things, like backing the boat trailer in the water. Every once in a while someone says to me "where did you get her". She backs in, I drive the boat on the trailer, and we are out of the water very quickly.

I will gladly take help most of the time. I find that I am not necessarily better than everyone else at everything so now and them I learn something and probably have a little entertaining conversation as well.

Calvin, a few years ago a friend of mine borrowed my trailer when his son unhooked it he pulled the power cord out buy the cord. Next time his son wanted to use my trailer I said no, I had to replace the power cord end since you ruined it. That ended him using my trailer, he had to buy one for him self.

I agree Shrowcrop.I am not one to turn down help because I am sure one of us will benefit from learning
something.I know I have learned a lot that way.

I load and unload several times a day. Please just stay out of the way. Lol. Some want to help, especially with rolling up straps. Just let me do it my way thank you very much.

I'll take help from certain people mostly for all the same reasons as posted. Bob For the tarp they make patch kits with the appropriate glue for them. I've seen them though never used them.

Most of my friends are farmers too, and are busy with their own work and are never around. My brothers are all old now, and stay clear of me. And two of my boys also work away and have their own things to do, and know if you come near dad, he’ll find you a job. So I don’t have helpful hands wanting to jump in and get in my way. Pretty much work alone, my wife will come along for the ride.

My wife helps when she can but when backing something in the barn she always stands were I can see her no many who many time I tell her. I was backing something in at the in laws last week and both her and her mom stood where I could not see them and the father in laws say for 50 years on the farm she still can not figure out that I cant see her no matter how muck I tell her so I gave and you probably should too.

I married the farm lady (widow across the road). Lois can do any operating work on our acreage that I can do.

We are constructing a storage building for our RV & small acreage Tractors.....every single component was installed by my wife and myself.

I prefer not to have assistance other Than my wife.....:)
