Pull Type Swathing

55-50 Ron mentioned swathing durum wheat with a pull type swather in the other thread I started. So my reply got a little long there to include a photo. Here is one from 2002. Not sure what the reason was but my brother had his 830 on my Massey 21 foot pull type swather and was cutting wheat right ahead of me with the combine picking up the swath. I think I bought the direct cut header for the combine the next year.

There was one year that we were picking swaths but got down to our last 2 fields that were still standing. Grandpa and dad didn't want to take the time and waste half a day converting the header from pickup to straight cut mode (didn't have separate pickup headers at the
time). So even though the grain was dead ripe standing we just swathed it anyway with the combine going in right behind it. That is what your picture and description reminds me of.

Nice photo. Looks like no green grain spots or weeds. Weeds and some green grain spots were there when I was swathing in 1955, 1956, and 1957. Then I did my time in the Navy. Was swathing some again in 1962 before starting college and there was more uniformity in the grain as compared to 5 years earlier.
