Swim of shame?

Battery went weak on McCormick this weekend, left me stranded. I thought it would be nice to take boat out today, well the battery is DEAD and wont take a charge, looks like it went open. I had it all hitched up and ready to go, but always make sure it starts before I leave.

That would have been fun.

I am going to pick up one of those charge packs.

I'm sure I'll be next for batteries in my 1170, they are 7 years old, but it still starts every time. Now that I've said that it'll be dead next time I get ready to use it.

Jumper to the dead battery from a running vehicle (attach to Pos toPos, then neg on dead, to vehicle frame away from the vehicle battery for 10 minutes. The charger may not recognize the dead battery as a real battery unless there is a tiny bit of charge in it. Jim

Yup, will pull my truck out into middle of lake when I need to start it there.

Thinking new battery is better.

But plan to get jump pack.

The Dead battery might be chargable if it is tweaked with a little charge (on dry land near electricity) so the charger sees it as a chargable battery. My best charger ignores batteries that have less then 5 volts in them. So just a little (manually applied) charge can make them work on the charger. Or pontoons for your truck and an outboard on the tailgate. Jim

My charger is probably 40 years old, no sense in it.

I thought about tickling it back to life, but do not trust them once gone, especially in boat.

if you are looking for a jump pack, i have a cat cj3000 that i keep in my truck. got mine from rural king , about 120 dollars. my truck has a 110v outlet, so i can keep it charged. works gook, no complaints. has an on off switch no computer to turn it on. an issue with a totally dead battery.
poke here

I have been playing merry go around with batteries my self. Taking out boat to fix tractor. Taking off camper to fix boat.

One day I’m going to break down and buy three new batteries for my boat. I try to keep newer batteries in the boat because while I can walk home from a tractor breakdown it is kinda hard to walk 20 miles across water.

I had a dead battery in a tractor that hasn't been started in just over a year. The battery a 6 volt was completely dead. So I charged it and it came to almost full charge. I let it set for the night and in the morning checked it again and it was dead. So I looked at the date on the battery and it was JULY 2005. So I guess it is time for a new one. Wow has the price gone up in the 15 years ago when I bought this old one.

Gee, I feel soo good, I haven't had to buy a new battery for at least 3 months. Seems like every year 2 or 3 batteries. I sometimes think I should become a dealer for them, then I'd never have one go bad. Keith

I had that happen a few years ago, got to the boat landing and a dead battery, embarrassing! I had left the GPS turned on for a couple of weeks, thank goodness I was able to move the trolling motor battery to the starting position. Now I check the power tilt by using the switch on the outboard, it indicates how fully charged the battery is.
