Follow up on hip injection

I had my injection in my right hip Thursday morning. The injection was not to try to relieve the pain for a long period, rather it was to see if the problem was in fact in my hip or in my lower back. They injected 3 different things in the hip joint, Lidocaine, Prednisone, and I can't remember what the 3rd one is. No pain at all when he injected them but when I started to get off the table I had absolutely no use of my legs. The Radiology Tech caught me and sat me down on a chair. Did you ever try to put bibs on without raising your legs at least a little, the guy had to dress me, put me in a wheelchair and wheel me out to the car. When I got home, still no feeling in the legs and the wife got me onto a seated walker and between her and a granddaughter they got me into the house. After about 3 hours I was able to stand and walk. My right hip still feels like it did 20 years ago but it let me know just how much the right was masking the left, it hurts a bunch but there is absolutely no pain in the right one. I haven't talked to my Dr. yet but I would bet a new pair of hips are in order. Thank God it's not my back or at least I can live with what little pain there is in it. Keith

Apparently a shot is something they have to try before replacing the hip. I got the shot in my right side early Sep 2017. It lasted about two weeks. Hip was replaced that Dec. Left hip gave out spring of 2019. I limped through last year. Last winter the doc wouldn't replace my left hip because he said the x ray didn't look all that bad! I said I don't care, it hurts a whole lot more than the right one ever did! So we had to do the shot. Again, it lasted about two weeks. Then they won't operate for three months. Then it was too late to get me done before spring work! I was not happy. He said he'd pencil me in for Dec. I think in August I'd better start getting after him, and see if nnalert 19 has screwed everything up.

Did you get some relief then? Lidocane is an anesthetic, prednisone is a steroid. Wonderful stuff when you need it but you can't stay on it very long. Hope it lasts a while for you. Mine is not any better at all since the surgery on 6-8. Still can't put my full weight on it and I have to stand veeeerrrry slowly after sitting or bending down. I think that's from my back but it's really hard to tell. I never expected this much pain. Seeing the surgeon tomorrow, hope to find out more.

In 2017 I had severe pain in my right hip going clear down to my ankle they did a MRI on my hip and it was good nothing wrong had another one the next week on my back and there it was a herniated disc found a good doctor in Columbus Ohio who does back surgery every day they went in and shaved a little of the disc away to relieve the pressure on the nerve I've been almost 100% since then they can do amazing things nowadays just make sure you get a doctor who does it every day and has a good reputation

I have been getting cortisone shots in my hips for a couple years. Worked for 3 to 4 months then back to the pain. Went to a specialist. They took xrays and MRI. He said that my hips are in good shape. A week from this Thurs, I'm getting a couple shots in my back. Hope that works.

Yes I did. It's only meant to be temporary to see if the pain is in my hip or in my back. Had the injection last Thursday and have no pain at all in my right hip.

Ken, ask about exercises to build the support muscles up. I was still having knee pain after partial replacements. The orthopedic doc told me that it was due to arthritis in my lower spine and gave me exercises to strengthen the muscles around the spine. I am now better than I was ten years ago.

(quoted from post at 04:49:54 07/22/20) Thanks for the suggestion. I had been going to therapy and I still do the exercises but, they don't seem to do anything to help.

Ken, I would say that it took a good four months for both my wife and I for the exercises to have the effect. We are both more fit, trim, and active in our seventies than we were in our sixties.
