Flat tire (of sorts)

Sorry this isnt tractor related, but somebody here has probably done this. I stepped on a nail five weeks ago on Sunday. Replacing siding on my shop, got in a hurry, didnt clean up as I was working like I should, and ouch! Went to the doctor. Two weeks of antibiotics took care of the redness/infection. The hole has healed up just fine, but I am still getting quite a bit of swelling as soon as I stand up and it is painful and difficult to walk. If youve done something similar, how long did it take you to get back normal?

I did maybe 15-20 years ago, they were concerned and gave me the pills for a week or 10 days.

Really never noticed much from it, think it didn’t bother me much by day 3.

It was over an inch deep Probably 2 sticking out of a board I stomped down on (didn’t see the nail) and went into the front of the arch, didn’t come out the top. I figured
it would hurt worse so I went in the barn and did chores before I took my shoes off cleaned up and went to the doctor. I’m not always the smartest I suppose.

Of course I got poked in the belly by a bull a couple years ago, tore an inch deep by 3 inch wide hole in my lower belly muscles, they were more concerned with that
one. That took 3 months to heal, they said if I could take it without pain medication for 6-8 hours they could wait and see if I noticed any internal problems, otherwise
they would want to go in and scope things out from inside. So I didn’t take any pain medication, after 8 hours they said you want some strong Tylenol I said well I’ve
gone this far no point starting now, they let me out after 24 hours of drip antibiotic, couldn’t stitch me up or it would fester I had to pack it every 12 hours and let it heal
itself from the bottom up. I made a deal with the doc that I could work a little if I stayed really clean and not take any pain medication, if it hurt stop doing what I was
doing. So I was hauling my corn to the elevator 4 days later as the neighbor combined for me. The bumps in the road were a little tough, and getting up and down the
tractor cab, but I never took anything for the ouch. Doctor kept shaking her head and saying you farmers you are a different bunch, But you always seem to do good,
my pocket wound stayed so clean over harvest time they didn’t ever flush it out, said its looking so good with fresh healing they didn’t want to disturb it.

Hope your deal is good, swelling after doesn’t sound right?

My wife once stepped on a nail
while wearing flip flops. A piece
of the foam got pushed into her
foot and would not heal. She
about soiled herself when she
finally dug it out.

I did have an x-ray done a week after I did it and it didnt show an abscess. Suppose it could have formed later?

Bacon fat wrapped with cloth around the foot ( don't laugh ) works to draw out the dirt and stop any infection. This is an old cure from before antibiotics
came about. I've probably used this 7 or 8 times in my life. Never had to see a doctor for stepping on a nail.

I got a wood splinter in my hand. I pulled it out and went back to what I was doing. Two hours later I put a bandaid and some ointment on it. It got warm for awhile but that passed after a few days. It stayed hard though, and after about ten weeks the bump changed shape. One evening I pressed slightly next to it and the splinter popped out, two inches in the air.

Pinched my finger real bad between two pieces of metal, and cut the skin at the same time. It needed stitches. They did an x ray of my hand to see if there was more damage. The doctor told me I have a piece of metal in another area of your hand. Doesn't surprise me Stan

Had a bump in my groin area about as big as a pencil eraser. Didn't hurt wasn't red. Went to doctor to check it out. Told me to
tape a piece of bacon and a cloth over it. Next morning a hole was there and as clean as could be and big enough you could put a
pencil eraser in it.

Have you had a tetanus shot in the past ten years?? Also, you may want it x-rayed to be sure there's nothing left in your foot.

think you've waited long enough. Time to have it checked again.

When I was young,I built trusses, so splinters were an everyday occurrence. Was easier to let them fester a couple ofdays, they slide right out!

When I was 6yrs old(1962), they were building our house and I stepped on a nail in a
small cut off board that a carpenter had just thrown off the roof. The carpenter
noticed right away, climbed down, asked if I was ok, and so on-yeah it hurts but I'm
fine. He gave me about $2 and change so that I would tell my parents. Well I limped
around all afternoon, did not tell anyone, and was sitting counting my money, and that
is when-where did you get that money? why are you limping? take off your shoe! let me
see! So long story short Dad ran me to the Doctor, and I got tetanus shot. I don't
remember it taking long to heal or hurting real bad for very long. I guess I was lucky
it was a clean nail and not a rusty one. Mark.

When I was about 5 or 6 I jumped off a trailer and stuck a nail all the way through my foot. My mama and grandma cleaned it up and soaked it in
kerosene a couple of times and I never went to the doctor. When I would get a risin occasionally Mama would tape a piece of fatback on it. It would
draw the core out of it. They used home remedies first before using a Dr. If we have chest congestion my wife will make a mustard plaster and put on
my chest and on my back. I will usually be better after that. Sometimes for bad cold or flu symptoms, she will slice an onion and put it in a bowl by the
bed. That seems to help most of the time. She learned all tha from her Grandma when she was growing up.
