The death of Billy the Kid

It amazes, but not amuses me, how these thugs get glorified.

What is the attraction to someone who chooses to turn to a life of crime?

I suspect if the victims story could be heard there would be a different opinion of them.

It's an interesting story, not offended by your posting it, just another page of history. Just makes me wonder how some come to be legends for being evil.

I somewhat agree with you, but most of those celebrated thugs ultimately met their demise when common, ordinary citizens finally had their fill of it, banded together, and took care of the problem.

Thanks for the link UD. Haven't read about him in a long time. I enjoy history. It's too bad it's no longer studied. If it was you wouldn't be seeing the same corruption today that ruined his life way back then. I fear we are heading back to the same situation and the result will be no different. History always repeats itself.

On the way to Ruiodoso, NM stopped in Lincoln and walked through the jail he escaped. Saw the bullet holes (supposed) in the adobe jail. Even was able to climb the stairs. Pretty cool history lesson.

So I'm thinking if you were on the streets as a young teen you would not steal to feed yourself.
And you would also sit on your hands if someone killed your surrogate father.

Now remember we are talking a range war in a time where there was no real law west of the pecos.

That was John Wesley Hardin. That was claimed to have done that. If you dig for the truth. You find the real story. At least closer to the truth.

If you look at Bonnie and Clyde. There is no way Clyde drove that many miles in one night. On the roads they had back then.

And relying only on my memory, I think I read that John Wesley Hardin shot through a wall because someone in the adjoining room was snoring loudly. The snorer just happened to be in the wrong bed at the wrong time. But YMMV (your memory may vary).

Same way pirates get glorified. My sister, a pastor's wife, made a pirate costume for her grandson and taught him to say "arrrggg" and shared pictures of him on facebook.
