Got lucky! Kinda long

Yesterday (Sunday) I went to the other farm to grind feed. I have the grinder here and the corn I was going to use is in wagons there. So I get up there go to start the MF265 and it's dead. Funny the battery must have went bad. I get the jumper cables out and still dead. That's weird. So after making sure it's in neutral several times I jump the solenoid and it starts but now I get sprayed with antifreeze. The hood is off for other issues so can see there's hole in the upper radiator hose, funny it's a burn hole! After more investigating the wires by the starter had shorted, started a fire which ran across the top of the engine to the hose and went out. WOW the fuel tank is RIGHT above the engine, the tractor is in a shed with a barn of hay not too far away. Could have been a disaster. My uncle comes out and said he smelled something last week but thought it was a neighbor burning trash. This thing hadn't been ran for several weeks and happens to have a short? I disconnected the battery and have a hose on order. Then I'll have to do some rewiring. Lucky the fire was small and didn't get the fuel tank that would have got to the shed and then the barns.

At times like when those things happen are when I know someone is watching over me. Yes you got lucky and for sure someone was watching out for you.

Went to use a truck one day (peterbilt). 3 new batteries and $300 dollars worth of new wiring later I got it going. The plates in one of the batteries had shorted out and melted down. It happens.
