Got rid of this pos

Traded this hunk of junk off on a loader for my 3020 I lost quite a bit of money on the deal I guess depending on how you look at it but I’m tired of looking at it so good riddance . Now I know why it was so “cheap” two computers to run a round baler and 5 electric over hydraulic solenoids Good job fiatagri then a chain driven belt guide that was only used for a short period guess we decided that wasn’t as cool as we thought either .

I have taken a loss on a few things myself, don't feel bad. The guy who designed that stuff is probably having his cup of coffee this morning, and thinking how he designed so much machinery that makes farming easier, for the farmer. Stan

Or laughing about how he got someone else to believe it was a good idea . I’ve made it up on some other really good bargains I’ve made like a 2000$ 3020 diesel powershift with new injection pump tires and converted to 12 volts deal

We have Had our 560 Hesston for 16 years. It has not let us DOWN. The owners manual does a very good job in the trouble shooting section of explaining symptoms and causes when there is a problem. As a industrial electrician and HD mechanic maybe I take the skills in automation troubleshooting for granted. This baler makes a good tight bale that is very comparable to the newer BR7090 New Holland. (Now we run both Side by side) One nice thing about the Hesston is that it is impossible to over fill because the pickup stops turning when the bale is full. Another great thing is that the pickup is mounted from the front. If you hit a good size sleeper rock the pickup will just bounce up and over the rock...NOT SO on the NEW HOLLAND. Because the pickup is mounted at the back, the rock will keep the pickup from bouncing up over and then you have 5 tine tubes to replace and a whole bunch of stripper bands to buy. FUNNY thing aren't all the balers that are painted green been made by FIAT/HESSTON? they sure look alike... Even the BRAND New New Holland balers use ideas that Hesston has had for over 20 years.( like the twine arms hitting a lever to cut off the twine at the end of the stroke.) Anyhow. Enjoy the new to you Loader. that will make the 3020 a bit more usefull around the farm. NOW for a cab to stay out of the dust and spray.

A deere or new Holland has nothing in common with this pile of over complicated crap you can run a 435 or 535 with one set of hydraulic hoses and a pto don’t even need a monitor at all I’ve put up thousands of bales without a monitor the dairy had a new Holland again no monitor just simple hookup and it was new enough it had all the plastic side shields on it . I bypassed all the computers and made it run but it’s still ten times more complicated than any baler should be

I’m still debating a cab but I think a pair of insulated bibs would be cheaper I do a lot of fall plowing and frost seeding into December and it gets a little frosty but I’m still not sure I want an old cab although I’d like to maybe see how nice I could make one at least a swamp cooler and heat then try to isolate it so not so much noise but I don’t know

I’m sure it was great baler when it was working and both computers weren’t fried but it’s still way more complicated than it oughta be . I needed a loader and I have balers crawling out my ears so it’s gone

Sometimes it's not worth the aggravation. I don't think you came out on the wrong end monetarily. The baler apparently was costing money and not providing any gains. The loader however will be useful to you. What kind of a loader did you get?

Good ole Generac. I have seen more people shafted by them. Than I care too. No one has to believe me. Just go look up Generac complaints on the net.

I can’t remember but it’s a quick mount and also one I can mount the tractor from the front . Paid way to much for the baler and something told me not to buy it but a fast talking salesman and my lacking knowledge of a hesston baler made me think it was a smart idea oh well . Now to dissemble the loader and I’ll paint it green to match the tractor like I did the last one and I’ll be in pretty good shape

Ya but you still have the yellow Dodge that's still running at somewhat of a savings. So just count the overall profit of the entire operation. Take a lesson from the bean counters that operate giant corportions-if one part of the business makes a big profit, others have to show a loss to lower the taxes you have to pay.

That’s what I told the guy who got he said didn’t you pay a kit more for it than what he wanted for the loader? I said yes but I’ve done alright on some other things so the universe is still happy

SVC you need to get a "Heat Houser" or Weatherbrake". I have one on my 3020 and it is compfy. Mine has windshield and side windows.

Old cabs are a pain to enter/exit and NOISY. Water cooler on combine worked well in Kansas.

I bought a 550 two years ago. It looks like the one in your photo but no computers. It had some monitoring sensors and a box for the tractor but after messing with it a bit I got rid of all that stuff. Too many wires for what it did and you couldn't see the lights well in the bright sun anyway. Common sense and paying attention make it work just fine.

I also removed all the sheet metal from the front center so I could see the pickup reel better and mounted a light down there for evening use when the day runs too long.

I put new pickup teeth on it last year and replaced the bearings on the inner rollers this year. Typical stuff for an older machine. So far it's been a decent baler.

I guess they weren’t computers in the normal sense just circuit boards and about 27 miles of wire . Having said all that it’s still to complicated and when it’s gone I’ll do a cartwheel
Hesston 560 history

I’m still thinking a heat houser would be best can you still buy a canvas one or are all they plastic ?

Oh yeah, mine was way less complex to start with; two outer belts with a tension sensor, prox for door, prox for bale size and prox for twine pulley spinning. That was it.
One spool for the door/hydraulic tension and one for the tie arm.

For the twine pulley I drilled a 3" hole in the sheet metal and painted black and white stripes on the pulley. A glance tells you the twine is feeding.

An older friend of mine bought a newer used baler with computer stuff on it and had absolute hell with it.

Actually it's not that bad, but after a few years of taking it on and off the plastic windshield and side windows get scratched and scuffed but they can be replaced separately. I remember having one on an industrial JD 401A and on a Ford 6600. They worked great to keep you warm

Our Hesston 560 after 20 years of use is now our backup baler, it's been a very good baler for us. We got a new to us 2011 year model John Deere 568 with the mega wide pickup, and net wrap (that has only 12,000 bales on it). More people are wanting net wrap, the 568 bales faster, but the 560 still makes a nicer looking bale.
