Any of you folks attend this event--held at the end of August at the Jay County Fairgrounds. Thinking of coming down from Michigan....Like to hear your thoughts on the show......thanks

I try to get there every year for miltiple days. You even with the cart cannot cover everything in one day. And expect rain at least once, sometimes more. Lots of tractors. And there are shuttles to haul you around the grounds And normally shuttles to haul you in from the parking area. If you want to camp get reservations in now as camp grounds are always packedto breaking point but nice grounds just across road from show. If health was better I could be one of the shuttle drivers around the show grounds.

What are the dates of the show? and could anyone recommend any motels close to there. Wife and I might go over to it this year. Keith

I go to Portland for at least one day every even year and sell parts at Rantoul every odd year. I tell people that you need to get to both at least once. Both are great shows.

At Portland, there are many carts running around. Watch for people on foot if you're on a cart, and vice-versa. Portland marks the flea market area for one-way traffic, but many seem to think this is optional. This show has always had a lot of engines on display and running--thousands of them. Some engines are running all day, but in the late afternoon/early evening most are running in the engine area. A walk around the engine area when they are just about all running is an experience. There's also several hundred old tractors on display. Some older construction/industrial equipment will also be there, and they have an area where they can work it. There's quite a bit of antique lawn & garden equipment, too. There will be sawmills working, and a small strip of land where some tillage is done. Some steam engines are there, and working. There are nice shaded areas to relax in and the area near the grandstand gets packed around noon as many of the food vendors are there. There's a large flea market and you can find just about anything there. There's a lot of engine/engine parts vendors, antique ag parts vendors, tools, and more. Don't wait until late afternoon to visit the flea market. Most of Portland's flea market/parts vendors seem to wrap their day up around 5 o-clock.

Enjoy the show.

Might not be any avaible day of show you would want one, all being reserved. And if you want a motel you might as of now have to drive 50 mile away from show to find a room. Closer ones already booked.
