Need 8N Sales Tips

I'm about to put my trusty '52 8N up for sale. I live in the Memphis, TN, area. Good tires, good hydraulics, starts and runs easily, was a regular worker until I bought a "green machine" to replace it a couple of years ago. I've owned it about half of it's 68 years. I've never sold any equipment - can anybody give me any advice on the best way to go about it and a fair price to ask? Local newspaper classifieds are practically non-existent anymore and I'm leery of Craig's List and eBay.

Do you live close to a busy highway set out and see what happens

or talk to a used car dealer ask to put it on there lot

post it here on the classifieds, and on Craig's List. locally. Depending On Your Location, They Are From 1500 to 2500 easily. Jim

Both seller and buyer have to be honest with each other, tractor has to be priced according to what seller would pay for it. I have sold tractors to people all the way from Penn., Idaho, Tenn, Arizona, Iowa, New York, S.Dakota, etc. I am in SW central Iowa, Just the last two days I sold a tractor to a fella from Utah, I advertised on Craigs list & this site also under classifieds and photo adds. I have received nothing but compliments saying that the tractor was as advertised. I have never had a problem with any of my buyers. You will have some that will put you down and be tire kickers even without seeing the tractor. Represent the tractor as it is, not something that it isn't. Good Luck

Around my area demand for those is on a big decline for the same reason you no longer need yours. In these parts it better be A1 of your going to ask over 2K for it. There are lots of average condition tractors around for 1500 and been for sale a long time.
No matter how you market it you take a chance og running into a few quacks. I use FB marketplace, haven't used CL for years. Certainly you know that you can advertise it right on this site?

As a recent buyer of my 8N, I spent quite some time looking at the various online market places - Craigslist, Facebook, eBay, and even Tractor House, to get an idea of what they were going for. Ended up taking over a year before I bought something. In that time I began to get a pretty good feel for prices, largely by watching many ads. Eventually was able to tell which ones were going to sell quickly and which ones were going to languish for months. Of course, usually the ones that were going to sell quick were also well above what I could spend, lol.

Prices will vary WIDELY based on region. If you're smack dab in the middle of rural farming country, prices are likely going to be MUCH lower than say where I'm at - Phoenix. There's just not a lot of tractors around here to begin with beyond your typical lawn/garden tractors, compared to say rural areas of the corn belt where you can't pass a property without seeing a handful of old tractors on the back lots.

Here, a $1500 *N tractor is a pile of rusted out "yard art". I watched MANY old tractors go for $3000+ pretty quick here, and if it has a loader on it, even a "jungle gym" Wagner or Dearborn, you can pretty much count on getting $5,000 for it if it simply starts up and runs..kinda. I saw quite a few ads from people in northern California, Iowa, Utah, and Colorado that I seriously thought about going to see, as the prices were MUCH cheaper than here, but those were potentially 20 hour round trip drives, and I never really trusted my truck to go that far and back.

I feel I got VERY lucky to find my current 8N a few months ago for $1800, with a Wagner WM3 loader on it, despite all 4 tires in desperate need of replacement, and some tune up work needed. Thankfully, there are many, MANY, people today that can't follow simple directions. In this case, the seller specifically said to call, and NOT text or email. 20 people replied before me, but I was the first to call as requested, went out to look at, and immediately bought it.

Seller had good pictures all around, was up front about what it needed, and there weren't any surprises when I showed up. I didn't even try to haggle him down.

None of my business but you said you have had close to 35 years,
any family nephews etc.. you can work a deal with.

I personally don't knoe of anybody that uses facebook except bussiness that are expecting to get things out to non facebook users. Couple of years ago I bought a hay rake off of craigs list that was happy to get for advertised price, first caller from craigs list. Seller told me they had it on facebook for 2 months with not a single call and I found it first day on craigs list and actually bought it sight unseen over the phone. have asked on here how to get on face book to get things the goverment posts there and was told do not try to get on face book even for that.

Facebook Is free and works I’ve bought a brand new old stock diesel compressor on Facebook bought a Miskin scraper on Facebook bought lots of tires and tractor parts on Facebook and farm toys and books on Facebook

I`v e sold a few of these through the years, and the thing that seems important to people was how the lift works. If you can describe that well it REALLY helps if the buyer has had past experience with N series Fords. Will it only go up and down, will the draft work, will it hold something half up or whatever position you want to carry something, etc

Also a lot of people that do not use facebook. If you put ot on facebook also put on craigs list and any other places you can find.
