Get to go this morning for an MRI of my lower back to decide if it's my back or my worn out hips that are causing my problem. I just do not believe I want him to cut on my back knowing my hips are shot. Either way, I have hay to put up so no knife till the fall when it's all done. I have absolutely no square bales, as soon as I bale somebody wants them. I now only have 12 round bales in the Quonset, same thing applies to them. I've never had a year like this (but no complaint from me. I was mowing hay yesterday and a lady stopped and told me se wants 17 round bales. I don't know if I'm gonna ever get the buildings full or not but it's really a pretty good feeling knowing you bale good quality hay that people can use. On the physical thing, I just want to be able to work without a lot of pain. A little is OK but I really do not like this darned cane that I have to use. You all have a great day today.

Dear Keith. Service to others is a fine and worthy enterprise, but there comes a time in which a decision must be made between that noble cause, and self preservation. You are that giving sole that has put others ahead much of the time. In order to make the process continue, in this case, fill your own barn, then customers' trucks. It is not selfish, it is the necessary. If animals you raise depend on that hay, and you don't have it their needs could demand that you purchase and have hauled much higher priced hay than you are selling and it may not be of that quality.
I have changed what I do so my body doesn't cripple my best efforts. I am 71.5 and understand the issues. Take care, we wan't you around. Jim

consider cortisone injection in the affected area---I have had them and sometimes they work really well and other times don't
I have had them in my knee, hip and spine

Start there and it wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion if you don't like what you hear. I'm recovering from a revision to my right hip on 6-8 and it still hurts pretty bad at times. Don't know if it's normal for a revision. Had them replaced in '09 and '10 and both are loose now. Don't put off the replacement, it's an immediate relief. I have lower back issues too and sometimes it's hard to tell what the pain is from. Eliminate the hip problem and when you're walking better it may also relieve your back. I had my hay custom baled last year and it worked out great. Same guy this year. He cut my neighbor's Thursday and mine Friday to bale Saturday and Sunday. Well, just finishing up the neighbor's and a knotter broke so mine is still laying. A shame, the weather's been about perfect for haying the last three weeks. He's trying to get a repair man here today. Good thing about selling your hay right away is you won't have to be loading or delivering in mid-winter like I sometimes have to. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Does he need any hay for himself? If yes keep what he needs but if he does not need it to feed for himself then sell it right from field and save his body. Am thinking he does not need any for feeding for himself.

Also sounds like a price increase is in order.

i just went through all this pain due to a herniated disc in lower back for the last 6 months. had to use cane also for first couple months and back brace. doctor was giving all kinds of different pills and nothing killed the pain in left leg. could not sleep at night either for first while. was going for physio couple times a week. just takes time and it will heal. i just got ok'ed last week for work. i waited 4 months to get MRI done due to this virus but healed in the mean time. my chiropractor said exactly what i had and doctors where just giving pills and presuming, thats why MRI was ordered.

Had two different horse people look at the same bale of my hay . One said there was too much clover and the other said there was not enough.

I go in for a new joint or pacemaker or something every two or three years. They enable me to keep on doing whatever I want which is pretty much being productive and getting things done at my pace, but I don't mind doing the hard physical work like dragging or rolling hose with the young people either. Just two weeks ago a young lady firefighter on the department was surprised to hear how old I am, and told me that I looked good, LOL.

There is some debate below as to whether you need any of the hay for your own needs. If you don't, and you have people interested, then it would seem easier to sell it right off the baler.

These are not my fields and I really run the risk of loosing them if I don't work them and there goes the lime and fertilizer as well as seed I have put on them and built them up over the years plus it gives some income over the winter months so I'll continue to put up hay and he can wait till fall to do the operation.

VA is paying ther bill as I'm a disabled Vet so the civilian hospital only gets what Medicare will pay. I get a copy of the bill and what VA has paid. Sure is a lot less than what you or I would have to pay if we have no insurence

Every person that owns a horse thinks they are the world's ultimate expert on all things related to horses and everyone else that owns a horse is a total moron about horses.
