About to replace the compressor, condenser and clutch fan.Are there Any tricks or procedures I need to know about to make the job easier?I plan on removing the radiator and cleaning it while I’m at it.

I would also be replacing the metering device and accumulator as most new compressor manufacturers will void the warranty if you don't. Sounds like how I would do it.

What was the problem with the old compressor?

If it was just leaking, and the system has been closed, still best to replace the orifice tube and the accumulator. Replacing the condenser is also a plus.

But if the old compressor locked up internally, or was grinding/rattling (not counting the clutch bearing), the evaporator and lines need to be thoroughly flushed.

The system will need the correct type and amount of oil added per the instructions with the compressor, and the system vacuumed. The charge is done by weight (add up the cans if you don't have a scale).

Be very meticulous about getting everything back as it should be and keeping the system clean. Don't reuse or substitute orings. Do not over charge!

Look at some Youtube videos, sort through the Bubbas and go with the pro advise.

Best advice I can give you on the fan clutch is to have plenty of large band-aid's close by before you start. The replacement oriley sells is much easier going back. You will need something to clean up all the blood.

The clutch fan - if it screws on with the big built in nut- loosens in direction of fan rotation. There is a tool kit that uses a air chisel gun to remove and install. And like Steve says accumulator and orifice tube are a must. Mark.

Last year as I was returning home from a trip the A/C compressor on my 09 F-150 began to tick and got quite loud by time I go it home. I took it to the local A/C shop and they did a couple of tests on it and told me the compressor was self destructing and that he had had several just like that lately. It wound up needing a compressor, the metering valve, dryer and the condenser had shrapnel in it that would not come out even when he flushed it a several times it was still yielding shrapnel, so it wound up needing the condense also. All told it was about a $1,200.00 event but it cools fine now in the triple digit heat index weather we have had this week here in Ga.

My mechanic said the pressure was way off coming from the compressor.i will change everything and he’ll charge it for me since he’s really busy

Did they evacuate pull a good vacuum and re-charge the system with the proper amount of refrigerant...

Low refrigerant will fool you...
