Looking for some help on Catapiller.

I have a friend who just got done buying a Road Ranger (caterpillar). Most people call them graders. Need help in giving him information on people who sell Parts for this type of equipment. Does any body know of wrecking yards and other places that carry parts for this type of old equipment. I think it is around the late 1930"s and early forties. Thanks for you knowledge.

A picture would be worth the thousand words here. If it has the woven screen with small angle iron bars it is pretty early Is it a 4 or 6 cylinder. And what parts is he needing? Engine, blade, or something else. A lot of the engines are the same as the dozers. Drive train can't tell. Some of the earlier engines the 4 and 6 cylinder engines had the same bores so a piston and sleeve could be used out of a 4 cylinder. As the D-4 was the same cylinder as the D-6 just 2 more cylinders in the D-6 same with the 7 and 8. Is it electric start or Little engine to start the diesel?

So if you tell me there are dealers all over the world. Are you suggesting that any caterpillar dealer will find parts for an old Road ranger (grader). which means this company is like John Deere that can find parts for 82% of there John Deere tractors. Right or wrong?

La.weld and press in Zachary La. 225-654-6831.been 20 years since I went there but we used to get parts for old D-6 and D-9 pony engine’s and about anything else caterpillar

That's correct - I took the manual for my early 40s D4 to the local Cat dealer part numbers from manual were still the same today as they were then.
They ordered what I needed and we had it in 2 days no extra cost

All I have is the place in the link k&j on Hwy 75 in Northeast KS on the KS-NE line. All I know is I have driven by there and noticed they have at least some heavy equipment salvage units. So do tell where the secret compound is where this machine; affectionately sharing its name with a semi truck transmission and gas station chain, resides. At least a state would be good.

Brent got stand looking at the LEFT front wheel, then slowly begin to follow that beg square main tube toward the rear. There should be a small brass tag right at the bend . Take light sand paper and clean that tag. Your model number will be there. Get that model number and go to your cat dealer.
