Got up early to do some welding on a build I am putting up and looked around and there was the first
new fawn for the year. Young thing was still wet and wobbly legged. Mama must have been right there
where I was working. Still no new turkey this year but there is the first fawn.

Most of them in N MN were born about a month ago, I jumped one last week while mowing with my Farmall C, it jumped up and ran real well. A couple of years ago I almost ran over one, it was almost under the tire before it jumped up. 53 years ago I ran one through the haybine about this time of year, what a mess! Where are you located?

That is strange to me , I would have thought father north would have been born latter in the year. I am located in middle Tennessee and this is about normal for this part. Always have to be very careful cutting hay for sure.

I'm still waiting to see my first fawn here in south-central Minnesota. I'm expecting see one soon, because I've seen a doe grazing by herself on the edge of the woods for a few days, and that usually tells me there's a fawn waiting to show itself. Last year at this time I had already taken a fawn to a wildlife rehabilitator after I found it with its injured leg stuck in a fence and no doe to be seen. (That fawn was recovering well for about 10 days, then inexplicably died; the rehab woman called me in tears to break the bad news.) Two years ago I took one to the same rehab woman after my neighbor found it starving near a dead doe. And twice in the last two or three years I've had to drag a dead doe out farther into the woods. It breaks my heart to see these beautiful creatures young and old struggle to survive.
