Massey Furg 711 skid Steer

I have an older 1970's MF 711 skid steer. The engine runs great, it goes forward and backwards without issue. When it comes to turning, that's a fail. It feels like its "binding". Won't turn, almost stalls the engine trying to. I am looking for a good starting point for troubleshooting. All fluids are good and clean.

Thanks
Sean

More info might help.

Have you had this unit awhile and this problem has developed over time? Or is it a unit you acquired recently and are learning about it? How much throttle are you running it at? Does surface (gravel, pavement, concrete, etc.) you are turning it on make a difference? Is the "binding" the same when turning both directions? Or is just when turning right or left? Does it counter rotate steer ok?

Each side of drive wheels is a completely separate system.

The front and rear wheel are chain driven together.

If one side is being influenced by the other, the cause is likely in the control linkage.

An easy test, block the rear up, lift the front with the bucket, operate each side of driving wheels and observe the operation. You should see independent control of each set of wheels.

Just acquired with the problem. (Bought a Case 580CK and Skid Steer as pair for $5k). It does the same on dirt, gravel, pavement. Little easier in the dirt due to less resistance of the surface, but still not "usable" in the sense.

That was going to be my plan this evening after reading the maintenance manual on it. I also ordered a Hydraulic gauge test kit to see what I am getting out of the "test" points they called out in the manual also for pump pressures. What could wrong with directions written "Drive machine forward against firm object(that will not move and cannot be damaged) while running engine at maximum RPM and directional level all the way forward observing the pressure gauge reading......"
