JD 950 and a 39 sickle mower

I may possibly have a chance to purchase a JD 39 sickle mower. My question is will this physically hook to a 950 john deere. I am not worried about horsepower because I will not be in a hurry and can gear down. It hooks under your lower arms and I am worried it may be to close to the tractor. May be possible to attach to lower pins in a different spot to set it further back from tractor. Thanks

Works wonderfully

SV, the "39" is a true 3-point hitch mower and uses a unique system to make the outer end cutterbar lift work as you lift the 3-point. Your "8" is a "semi-mounted mower" and uses it's own hydraulic cylinder, the "39" doesn't have it's own.

If I understand the O.P. correctly, his issue is wondering if the "950's" shorter-than-normal 3-point arms will work with the cutterbar lift mechanism on the "39".

You can see the (green) "arms" on the "39" paralleling the underside of the (blue) tractor's lift arms in the photo.

I (think) I understand the problem, and am familiar with the "850's" and "950's" but NOT the combo with the #39, so I can't specifically answer the O.P.'s question.

You are correct about my question. I didn't have a tape measure with me when I looked at it. All I want to do is mow a canel if front of my house twice a year. If it want hook up as intended I think I could modify it to hook up.

Couple of thoughts here: is the 950 a cat 1 or cat0 3ph? If it is cat 0, I would say forget it. I sold a 39, tried it on a 720 but pto shaft was too long, probably for 3010 et al. I still have a 38 and it lives on a 40 Std. The 39 is heavy, maybe more than 950 can handle. best bet here is a slightly bigger tractor or find a lighter mower that is more compatible with the 950. I do not know if Deere made a mower for that series, be interesting to know what the matched implements were for them.

I have a Yanmar YM 330 same tractor basically as the JD 950 great mowing tractor I've mowed hundreds of acres with mine hooked to a NH 456 trailer mower. You may have to change things some to get it mounted but should work might have to customize a top link. It'll handle the mower no problem.
