Need some experienced advice Guys ....My neighbor wants to sell the baler to me ., the 4020 JD hydraulics are fine on everything else i hook to ,,. But .,the 4020 will not raise the tailgate with a full bale ,.. somewhere oil is by passing ,,.. dont think the cylindars are leaking off ,,.. i think the front diverter valve is amiss .. reversing outlets make no difference .gonna try setting the the hydraulic on the 4020 to only up and down , Currently there is a float position , that I avoid,, but maybe there is is the answer ../ ,, .

Diverter valve?

My 605F just has 4 hoses, one set for the gate, one set for the twine arm.

They must have combined things?

Can you try baler on another tractor, quickest way to determine which machine has problems. If problem is with baler, there is a double relief valve in the hydraulic lines, which limits pressure both up and down of tailgate. Never know what someone has fooled with in the past. Post back with what you find out. Oh, that diverter valve is the tailgate safety lock.

Thanks Paul and Vapet for responding ,.. That is a Tail gate lock and Nothing More ? Right ? . perhaps it is also a tempering valve to slow the descent of the tailgate is what i was wondering ,,.. if so perhaps the valve has a ruptured seal spring collapse that is allowing bypass . No other tractor will raise the tailgate.. and they lift well everything else .. therefore . if all other assumptions are wrong it has to be the cylinders needing rebuilt from internal bypass ,,.. There Are no external leaks

After trying to lift the gate for awhile, feel the cylinders. If one is warm, it probably is by-passing oil past the internal seals.

Take the return hose loose and put it in a bucket. You will quickly know if the cylinder is bypassing oil!

Agreed , But i could not detect ANY heat difference with that . Only thing i could sense was some live vibration in the tailgate shut down switch.
