Dad cut down a out 100 square bales worth yesterday and tedded it. It got rained on this morning, but he called me at work this afternoon and thought it was ready. Wrong. We baled all of it, but it was still not quite dry enough. It was a good test for the haybine, tedder, rake, and baler. Everything worked as it should except the baler. Had one string on the first bale break because of old twine. Re thread the needle and we were up and going. The hay is on 2 wagons under cover, but not in the barn. We'll feed them out instead of putting them in the barn. Calling for heavy rain tonight is why we baled instead of waiting.

Keep an eye on 'em so they don't get hot enough to start on fire. I've seen green/wet bales do that & by the way, they took a friend's hay shed with them.

Spread them out in your hay mow on edge 1 layer thick then spread salt over them generously. The salt will draw moisture out of the bales. Being in 1 layer will prevent a fire.
