Swather Problems so had to go with Old Reliable

Hearing a clunking noise in the left side hydro motor when I finished swathing the brome Friday, so I broke out the old reliable machine. Even with somewhat dry conditions I had some of the best brome I have had in a few years. Still have 20 acres of prairie hay to do in about a month, but go the brome done for now.

Of course, if the swather bill is too much, I can call on some friends with horses who will be more than happy to come over. I don't mind using horses to swath prairie hay, as it dries so fast and the rain window is far wider. Brome is too tight of a window with rain always in the forecast.

I have similar JD swather, but without cab. Loved cutting hay with that machine. JD says it’s obsolete, and will only sell you parts the dealer may have in stock. Local dealers parts person told me they sell off all parts for obsolete equipment to obsolete parts dealers. Ticked me off!!

Actually, had the JD dealer mechanic down this morning, and he inspected it well and could not find anything wrong. Inspected the gears in the drives and drove it all over and it ran fine. He made several small adjustments and thought that may have helped, but nothing major. Great news!

Calling for a pretty good chance of rain tomorrow, and got all the fertilized brome rounds in the shed. As was said earlier, it's a good feeling. Bob
