Gear Box Oil New Idea 5209

Changing the main gear box oil on my New Idea 5209 discbine, the book calls for #90 EP Gear Oil ( API GL5). I was wondering if a full synthetic gear oil with a 75-120 range will work? also not certain what the API GL 5 designation means? I'm going to replace cutting blades also and check the grease levels in the pods, is standard grease used to fill them ? the book doesn't say? I was thinking about using Fluid Gear Grease in those pods. Any other maintenance tips on this 5209 unit welcome. Thanks

GL5 is the additive package, most modern gear oil meets that requirement, it will say GL5 on the bottle.

An 85w90 or somewhere near will work, synthetic is a plus.

Fluid gear grease, grade 0 or 00 is a good choice for less than perfect seals that tend to leak no matter what. It is thin enough not to channel away from gears, but thick enough to stay put.

They make tubes of grease for the pods that have the correct capacity for each one. CIH sells them. It is a liquid/fluid type of grease. Mark.
